I mean we all have to start somewhere!
It takes a while to get used to but you'l eventually get the hang of it
(Here's a few small tips if you'd like)
-Using a mouse (for me) is easier than a trackpad
-The stabilizer (under tool options) is your best friend!
uhh yeah those are probably the two biggest things that helped me

How to lock-alpha:
In the group called 'Manatee' there is a layer labelled 'color'. Select it and then check the box on the top of the layers box that says 'lock-alpha'. Then, select a color and color in the manatee.

A few tips I would give is:
-use a smaller tool size than you think you need; it will help guide the result.
-the smoothing tool helps too; set it to at least 50% for a noticeably straighter line (you will notice that your tool moves slower; this is normal. The smoothing tool (it's on the same bar that opacity is on) and the pen is what I use when I draw with my trackpad; I don't own a mouse currently, but I mainly draw with my Wacom drawing tablet. Trackpad is possible, just harder).
-using multiple layers is not a bad thing. I usually end up with so many layers that I can't label them all; it's just a miracle that that didn't happen with this one XD Point is, though, layers help to make sure you don't mess up something you just did underneath.

ChickenPaint takes a while to get used to (I'm still discovering new things about it that I didn't know before), but, as long as you practice, you'll get better ^^
