Describe this dragon's life up to this point:
The smallest egg of the nest, Rhythm hatched a day or two later than his siblings, and even then he was smaller and weaker than them. It seemed like he didn't have the ability to survive on his own, and seeing that, his mother didn't really care about him as much as his siblings. He was basically the runt of the litter.
He got left out of mostly everything, got teased, and sometimes they even seemed to forget he existed at all.
During their first hunt with their mother, he couldn't catch anything and at the end he somehow even managed to get lost as well.
Not smelling the scent of his mom, he started following a dirt road he found and ended up in a town where he, after finding a stable to hide and sleep in, spent several weeks laying low and stealing meat from a butcher, unbeknownst to the people living there. At that point, he stopped caring about whether his family was looking for him or not; he was just glad he was alive.
One night, when he was lurking around in the town, he heard sniffling coming from a cart.
Curious, he followed the sound and found a kid hiding under the cart.
When the kid saw him, both were startled, of course: the dragon ran behind one of the wheels, while the kid just froze.
After a short staring contest, the started talking to him. Though he couldn't really understand it back then, the kid told him his name, Reuben, and why he was crying: he ran away from home because he just found out his mother dies and now he couldn't find his way back.
He helped Reuben find his way back after the kid managed to somehow get the dragon to understand to follow his scent and when they got back, Reuben managed to convince his dad, a traveling merchant, to keep the dragon.
Reuben gave him the name Rhythm because of the rhythmic clicking noise he made while he lead him back.
Since then, the two are basically inseparable: Rhythm learned that Reuben is a bookworm and a sorcerer, and since the dragon didn't have anyone to watch as an example, the sorcerer helped him learn how to fly (which was a long and hard process, to say the least).
Rhythm and his newfound family traveled around Vibrait, trading and selling things, up until Reuben's father announced that they finally have enough money to send Reuben to Tustail'e to study magic.
And this is where we're now: Reuben and Rhythm are on their way to Tustail'e, often getting sidetracked by helping people and going on quests to earn some money ("And find treasure!" - Rhythm) for the road.
