having spent so much time in mabaya, sijali is detached from his emotions, so he does not have the natural empathetic behavior that other lions have. because of this, sijali often feels awkward around emotional lions because he does not know how to handle himself. this is just one of the reasons he chooses to remain in mabaya -- he finds the emotion that lions of dunia express to be annoying and uncomfortable to deal with, so he distances himself from them and keeps to himself, in his lonesome little den.

When Irenaeus was born, they were quiet from the moment they came out of the womb. In mean-spirited humor, the mute cub's father named them 'Irenaeus', peaceful. A name that easily invited other cubs to bully the mute cub.

But it's a great name for a talented healer.

Irenaeus spent a lot of time as a cub hiding away in the healer's den from the cubs that liked to bully them. The then-healer took pity on Irenaeus and took the mute cub with her when gathering supplies.

The cub's muteness invites lions to talk openly and honestly when Irenaeus is near. Large dark eyes hyper-focused on the talking lion, eager to listen and think about what they were told. Irenaeus knows no other life than to be forever unspoken-- and it does not bother them that they cannot talk or respond.

Not when talking is not needed to heal.

By the time Irenaeus was a juvenile, the pride's healer had all but officially adopted the mute lion as an apprentice. Most lions started to help out the mute lion when it was apparent Irenaeus had a gift and a desire for healing, and started describing things for Irenaeus without needing to be asked.

The first time Irenaeus was thankful for their muteness, though? It was a tragic day.

A mother had lost her son that morning to a freak accident during an average hunt-- and that night, the mother's father passed away from old age. She had woken up the entire camp with mournful wails, curled up in the elder's den like a cub and refused to listen to anyone's trivial words of comfort.

Irenaeus let the mother grieve for some time before they did anything. The mute apprentice settled next to the devastated mother-- and started to groom her. Irenaeus' quite support in a moment of grief was what the mother needed. She didn't need someone to talk to her, she wanted the space to let it all out.

Irenaeus spent the entire night with the mother, a silent pillar of support. Their eyes were brimming with sympathetic tears, too, by the end of it. Then started Irenaeus' signature ability: comfort. Lions who need a break will seek out the mute healer's company. Even the King will grumble about silly things, just to ease the weight on his shoulders.

Manoah has always had a special way he deals with folks who are upset and it can be quite surprising, especially when a lion such as him tends to come off as cold and serious. While he is normally content to go about his everyday business, when he finds that someone is upset, it disrupts his entire day. The only thing he'll ultimately finding himself doing is trying to make the upset party feel better... and that tends to be shown in a way similar to certain dogs.

First he'll come investigate and question what is wrong. He'll listen for a time and just settle beside them, trying to just be there for comfort's sake but then will ultimately wander off, out into the woods or off into his den. He'll come back moments later, with either flowers or mushrooms or a squirrel... or cute little trinkets or shiny rocks. Anything that he finds interesting, unique, or just pretty. Sometimes he'll even bring out a little doll he had gotten from a little native cub (It's his favorite thing so anyone who gets to see it is considered a good friend in his book) He'll bring whatever he finds special, or just something the party may like, and drop it at their paws. He'll only glance at them a moment before going off and finding a few more little things. It doesn't take long before the upset party, usually, finds his actions either cute or comical and they can't help but smile or laugh at the way he just keeps bringing them things. It's only then does he stop his retrieving and settles back down by the upset party.

Afterwards he tells them that things will get better... but he also will warn them that, if they tell anyone about what he did for them, he'll find them. He makes it look like it's a threat of some sort but, in reality, the vast majority of the pride knows his habits when it comes to folks that are upset and/or sad. (352 wc)
