freya has always adored cubs. she never was able to have cubs of her own though. every time she had ever tried, she had no luck at all. when she finally conceived a litter, they were all still born. you'd think this would destroy someone's heart, but freya decided to become a mother without baring any cubs herself. she moved into the nursery and became the head cub mother, caring for every single cub along side their mothers to help both the mothers and the cubs.

"Cubs are so.... So interesting!" Mbwa exclaimed to another lioness, Chai, who was wondering why anyone would want to have cubs.

"But you have to go through the process of giving birth. And that is painful! I truly don't understand how you can think that cubs are a good thing for your mental health," She replied, scrunching her nose up in disgust.

"What?! But how? You do realize that they are the reason our pride can live on, right?" She asked, incredulously.

"Yeah, Mbwa. Obviously I know that. I'm just saying that cubs aren't my thing. I don't care what you others do. I'm not having them, no matter how 'interesting' you claim they are," Chai says.

"But they ARE interesting, Chai. You never know how they're going to interpret things, especially when they're really young. They're so adorable!" She said.

"Maybe to you, my friend, but not to me," Chai finished, walking off.

I will never understand her. Mbwa thought, tilting her head as she stared at her friend.

Ketura was sitting quietly, mending some headdresses when Dahlia came to visit. Lately the lioness had taken to trying to befriend her, why Ketura couldn't imagine. As she tried to make small talk with the friendly lion she happened to mention the newly born cubs.

"I just adore cubs! They're so strange!" Dahlia said, smiling brightly.

"Strange?" Ketura looked up from her work a moment, puzzled.

"I mean, they're so tiny but so fearless, and they just say what is on their mind no matter what it is and who they are with or what anyone might think. It's kind of refreshing really.
And the ideas they come up with! I mean, cubs have to be some of the most creative creatures on the earth. Especially when it comes to getting in trouble and making up excuses.
Granted, maybe that cub did accidentally wander away from the group all the way across the stream and beyond the bushes. I mean, they can be kind of oblivious too so I guess it is possible.
They are fascinating really if you spend time around them and get to know them. Don't you think?"

Ketura blinked a little, not sure what to say and still processing the long explanation. Seeing that Dahlia looked expectant she said, "Well, I suppose so."

"I'm so glad you agree," Dahlia said, smiling again. "One day I intend to have several of my own!"

"They're so curious!"

Kalino himself was in a way cub like. With his happy personality and his ability to get distracted easily by a brightly colored feather or an interesting cloud. The most cub-like thing about him though was his curiosity.

Always one to ask questions many lions had difficulty being around him for long due to it. Because of this Kalino loved cubs. They asked questions constantly and had many good questions of their own and Kalino wondered how come by adulthood many lost this trait.

Because of this when Kalino was not working on keeping records or writing down a new fish he saw he socialized with the younger members of the pride and helped the caregivers. The cubs in turn loved Kalino because he never swatted them away and always listened no matter how much they spoke or asked questions.
