What is this Lion afraid of?

To be alone.

Those that see Raja might describe her as someone that is confident, comfortable with themselves, someone that is strong and takes care of others. And that is usually true. There is little that Raja is really afraid of, and nothing that she would not stand up against in order to protect those that she cares about, even if, in the end, she has to put her own life on the line to do it. She is hardheaded and opinionated, too.

However, her deepest, darkest fear is to be alone. She is absolutely terrified of being entirely left alone one day, abandoned, with no friends or family to turn to. Her fear is so great, in fact, that she even has trouble wandering even into the farthest edges of the pride's territory by herself. And, beyond that boundary, if they have reason to venture out of their pride lands, Raja most typically requires company in order to be at ease.

Should she venture out with someone else and she looses sight of them, even if they are not actually far away, it is reasonably likely that Raja's heart will begin to race in her fear and dread, and she will have a small panic attack. And she even begins to fear looking for them, in case they really did leave without her, which sometimes leaves her frozen in her place.

At the worst of it, her fear can be crippling, but most members of the pride are very understanding and take care to give her the reassurance she needs. Still, she's somewhat ashamed of her fear, with how much it actually gets to her and hopes that, one day, she can actually find a way to overcome it.

What is this Lion afraid of?

Jata isn't afraid of much. He is a fierce warrior and nothing on the battlefield deters him from his goals. His secret fear that he hides well is lizards. He is terrified of lizards. It all came from getting bit on the nose as a cub. Ever since he's done his best to avoid them but being in the Middle Territory makes lizards galore. He tries to keep his cool around them when he's on hunting patrol but he is always sweating and screaming internally.

What is this Lion afraid of?
Of all things, Rudo is deathly afraid of the water.

You may think that, living in the desert, Rudo would not have much interaction with his greatest fear. However, he and his pride make their homes on the banks of large oases, so water is a large part of their life. Large enough, in fact, that that is what makes his fear strange, not the fact he lives in the desert.

Rudo is a naturally brave and charismatic character, but the mere sight of water causes the mottled lion to shut down. He cannot move, cannot think, cannot breathe. It's almost as though he drowns where he stands, without ever touching the water. Should he ever find himself in the oasis by his home, for whatever unfortunate reason, Rudo reacts in one of two ways. He either freezes as usual, or begins to panic, flailing madly in a disgruntled attempt to stay afloat, swim away, and keep whatever beasts his nervous mind has placed in the deep at bay. Neither of these things help in the swimming department, and Rudo typically has to be rescued by a pridemate should he ever fall or slip into a body of water. He is one of the few lions in Motoheri that do not know how to swim. However, even despite his role, most lions are very understanding.



It happened when he was young.

Rudo, like any other cub, enjoyed cooling off in the shallows of the emerald oasis. As he was splashing about merrily, the young cub did not notice a hungry crocodile slicing through the water toward him. Not until it was far too late. To this day, Rudo feels phantoms of those dreadful teeth clasping around his ankle. He can remember the terrible feeling of the world being dragged out from under him, of water abruptly crashing over his head and into his nose, of the insidious reptile thrashing him about until he was sure his brain had turned to foam.

He remembers his father's paws crashing through the murky water, slamming into the crocodile. The way blood clouded the depths as the beast let go of Rudo, turning its attention to his father. The chilling yellow eyes of the bloodthirsty creature. What he cannot remember is how he was brought back to shore, bleeding in the sand. He cannot remember when he knew that his father would not be coming back.
