First Ride

I knew Persephone wouldn't be the easiest to ride. Her strong leadership was greatly valued with the other skepluvias in the scuffle, but not so much when it came to being told what to do. She did not like to be controlled and I'd secretly been dreading this day for a while. Surprisingly, she wasn't that difficult to tack and so I brought her into one of the larger round pens and closed the gate behind us. Even though my stomach was churning with anticipation, I tried to keep my cool as I slipped my foot into the stirrup and began to transfer my weight. She took a couple of sideways steps as I lifted myself onto her back, and then, she was still. For about 10 seconds, I thought all was well. Then she slowly peeked her head around and gave me a deathly glare before throwing her head up and jerking forward, yanking the reins out of my hands. She sprinted around the pen and with every step she took, I slid further and further down her right side, barely hanging on. Then with a thud, my back hit the ground and I rolled through the hot sand into the metal bars of the fence.

It took me a while to get my bearings straight and for the world to stop spinning, but when I finally looked up, I saw bright golden eyes starring straight back at me. To be honest, I wasn't sure if Persephone was going to come after me or bolt as soon as she saw me get up. Though she answered my question pretty quickly when she stuck her tongue out and gave me a sloppy kiss across my entire face. I couldn't help but laugh a little as I stuck my hand out to her and scratched under her chin.

"Maybe riding just isn't for us, huh?" I could swear she smiled back at me.

Absolutely no pressure to do anything with this right now because I know they're not really open, I just wanted to get it on her page so I wouldn't forget later <3
