Here's another mare for adoption, Beware! She's a fiesty one! She's evaded our handlers for a while now- she's been seen with and without herds, she's certainly the bossy type. We aren't sure if she has ever been handled before- she may have been born here and not seen a human until this point. We've managed to get the wild adoptees in separate (and large enough to remain 'wild' ) paddocks, but she's never let anyone get too close to her. Maybe one of you can change that!

How will you gain her trust? Through a lot of time and patience, often staying nearby, as close as she will let anyone get without bolting, and spending a long period of time there each day that is available. Showing her that you have brought her any sort of treat or food, and leaving it in the field while walking away from it. Allowing her to gain trust in humans at her own speed. Each time a trip is taken out into the field, the distance will be tested, if she bolts, she will be left alone for awhile before trying again. Gaining her trust while respecting her boundaries.
Why does she distrust humans? She has had minimal interaction with humans, either witnessing them dumping horses into the swamps, or by other humans coming to pick up and take horses, whether it be members of her herd(s), random horses, or herself. They are normally loud and quick, and often stress out the horses they are dealing with, so she has learned to keep her distance for her own sake and the sake of other equines around her.
