When you're born on a questionable island, you're often surrounded by questionable people; people who thrive in the darkness, and reek of the strange and supernatural. When you are raised in such a place, you learn to hide your trepidations, lest you cue those around you onto your weak constitution.
Titus was no exception; his mother, a foreigner to this island, hadn't prepared him for the venemous looks he received from the locals any time he offered a paw to the fishmonger as he carried a particularly large fish to his display, or when one of the refined elder ladies of the town dropped her umbrella in passing.
It was obvious he didn't fit in here. He was not hard-faced or rugged like the others, nor did he bear any battle scars or unusual features, which were commonplace here.
He tried to mask it with a glimmering, blood-red cat skull charm adorning his scarf, hoping it would make the malicious islanders look upon him with less contempt, perhaps hiding that he was not from around here; anything to make him look more intimidating.
Did it work? He certainly hoped so, as he stopped to pick up this week's penny dreadful...
