Tarren Name: Arro
Why this name?:
I was drawn to this Tarren immediately due to their gorgeous eyes; they reminded me so much of my partner's eyes when they light up in the morning sun. My partner is currently in the process of changing his last name to Arro, after his grandmother, and I thought it would be a suiting namesake for this stunning Tarren as well.
Legend Behind The Name:
Arro is a rarer surname originating from a native american group somewhere along the United States east coast. In our family, it is known to have been the name granted to my partner's great grandmother, Ammete Arro, by an irish-american family. She married to a younger american man from the same family years later, and he actually took her name instead passing his family name to her, which was obviously very non-traditional for the times. Their first daughter and then her daughter/their granddaughter took the name through the generations as well rather than changing their surnames after marriage, which kept the matriarchal tradition alive through the generations.
Exact details are a little uncertain as to the original roots of the surname, since the family history surrounding the introduction of the Carrolls and the renaming of the Arros is a tad cloudy (probably for a grim reason), however we do know that the meaning of the name was habitational, from the Arrow river in Ireland, and is a pre-Celtic term meaning 'riverbend'. The term was used in several old fables and fairy book texts in reference to running water, and there is even one well-known story I was lucky enough to be told that's been shared in the Arro family for decades about a dragon that protected mother earth from hunters, which I thought I would base this Tarren's personality on.
As the story goes, there was a dragon that lived behind a waterfall, and he would talk to the water and make it snatch fisherman from the banks in huge waves to drown them as punishment for killing the 'arro fish' (the term was used to describe all the aquatic creatures that lived along the riverbend upstream multiple times through the tale). The dragon turned to stone once the sun set each day however, and the village folk found and shattered him one night so that they could fish and hunt at the river in peace. Without the dragon, the humans over-fished the river causing it to dry up, hunted all the native wildlife and the pollinator insects/birds/ect, and without any water or a proper ecosystem the plants/crops began to die, leaving the entire village to starve to death. The last few living humans decided to put the dragon's broken stone bits back together in the night as a reminder of their mistake, then died at his feet. In the morning the dragon came back to life and decided that without the humans the earth was finally safe again, so he breathed water back into the streams, revived the wildlife, and regrew all of the plants. Out of pity, he brought a few of the humans back from the dead, and warned them to keep the lands safe and tell everyone to respect and care for nature properly if they wanted to live. The humans agreed, cared for the land, learned to respect and protect mother earth, and lived in peace alongside arro dragon.

Arro is a brutally honest and an often quick-to-judge sort of character, though he doesn't generally try to be. He has an optimistic point of view most of the time, even if it is in a more naive manner than would be preferred. He always means well in his choices, but it can often be quite hard for him to make logical decisions or to think through tough situations quickly. When he falters, he tends to blame the negative course of events on things happening around him rather than admitting to or attempting to work on fixing the mistakes he's made. But he does learn over time when he has a gentle and patient hand to guide him, or even just a positive-minded companion to emulate. Arro is very understanding of the fact that he needs others in his life to help him along, but despite this it can take a while for those he meets to gain his trust in full. Even with those he knows in and out and cherishes with his whole being, he often worries over how they think of him, or if he is doing something wrong, or if they arent being truthful about their loyalty to him, which may cause him to lash out cruelly. Even when he is unable to apologize for his explosive behaviors, if he manages quell his anxieties and is able to focus on the positive, he proves to be a adoring creature with a true heart of gold deep down, and it's easily apparent that he is always trying his best to better himself simply for the sake of those around him.
