explanation:
⋆ [mascara;] “all my regrets and remorse, covered by mascara”
the girl finds a home in the sea. the soft crashing of waves is a
never-ending melody. the sea is her only listener, it listens to her
rants after a long day, about new experiences or heartbreak. she
always knows that it listens by the constant splashing. her struggles
with love was a constant topic. am i not good enough? will some-
one ever love me? do i deserve someone like you? she was tired
of asking the same things, the sea was tired of hearing her sorrow-
ful thoughts. it wasn't everyday when sapphine faces heartbreak,
but when it does happen, nothing can hide her tears.

⋆ [foam;] “love and foam is the same; beautiful yet fragile”
the thought of true love was already out the window. relationship
after relationship, she has still not found happiness. none of her
romances ever worked out, her partners have left her in a puddle
of heartbroken tears and regret, all feelings destroyed in the blink
of an eye. sapphine no longer believed in love, therefore relying on
the oh so perfect sea to comfort her in times of havoc. admiring it
and loving it. however, the sea foam carried by the waves was just
like romance; beautiful yet can disappear in the blink of an eye.

⋆ [mermaid;] “oh don't leave, maiden of the sea”
the girl goes down by the sea as usual, preparing to pour out her
feelings once again. but a glimpse of something odd slows her
into a halt. there was a creature, a human but not quite, perched
atop a rock. it's blinding purple tail gleaming in the sun. saph felt
herself gravitating towards the exotic sight. purple met blue as
their eyes locked together. this creature was... beautiful.
strange but very beautiful. seconds tick by as the two stare at
each other, spellbound. but before she knew it, the creature
at disappeared. what was this alluring being?

⋆ [young forever;] “youth is eternal as long as i'm with you”
sapphine could not get the mystical creature out of her head,
she wanted to catch another glimpse of it just one more time.
but it was already gone, there was a slim chance that it would
show up again. days and days had passed, saph having one-sided
conversations with the ocean as always. the thought of the
creature had plagued her mind. she wanted, no, she needed
to see it again. it was almost like... she was addicted.

Explanation (optional):

Dystopia - This instrumental’s name describes the world Ruby lives in. In this dystopian city people are pitted against each other to survive for the entertainment of others. Those that are put up to fight against each other do so because if they win it is a means of shelter and resources, such as food. The rounds end when one of the combatants is killed. Those that are classified as the fighters seem to have no way to escape once they’ve signed to join unless they survive 100 battles. Which doesn’t seem much but those in charge tend to cheat, so those who are nearly there often die of unknown causes.

Ruby as a child grew up within the city, a drab and monotonous sort of collection of haphazardly placed buildings. Her family consisted her and her parents, for a while they lived in their own house but got into debt. To pay it off they had to sell everything. Then they found out a way to get shelter and food, and signed for it not realising it was for the pit. She lost contact with her parents within the area and presumed them dead. For years she avoided those in charge and didn’t get caught until she was a young adult. Once caught she was put in the arena as The Red Scorpion.

Dernière Danse - This song shows Ruby giving up on fighting anymore in the pits, viewing every fight as her “last dance”. Though she hopes she can “fly away from there. Consistently fighting on and off in the arena for years, left her giving up of ever escaping the nightmare.

I Beg You - I can see this song representing Ruby’s pessimistic view on her environment. Though in the end of the song it turns to her trying to hold onto her dreams of escaping and wanting to see the world.

Echo - Represents Rubīsasori’s inner dilemma of wanting to leave the fighting pits and believing she’s trapped. Eventually deciding to escape in the end.

Home - Ruby searching for a new place to call home. Finally settling in a quiet village beside the sea. She then changes her name from her name Then Red Scorpion (was only given a stage name) to Rubīsasori Van der Zee.
