Rules

1. Siren Song is a closed ARPG. Non staff may not use these lines for any purpose.
2. You may not sell or purchase SS merpeople. If you see someone attempting to sell one, please notify me!
3. Don't change SS designs! Accessories are fine but they won't be added to official refs.
4. Be respectful to staff and to each other, please.
5. Credit artists for their designs. If you take the artwork offsite, please link back to its adopt page and give appropriate credit.
6. You won't be added to the reference, so please don't ask.
7. Please maintain some sort of thread/website for your merpeople for easy leveling!
8. The number of merpeople you can own is determined by your level. Please don't adopt more mers than you have slots!
9. You are free to develop your groups and lore as you wish. Leviathans are official NPCs that you can incorporate into your stories, if you want.

Physiology
The upper body of a merperson is similar in appearance to a human's, with a scaled aquatic tail. They have sharp teeth for tearing fish, though they are omnivorous and will eat aquatic plants as well. Mers can breath both above and under the water. They are physically sexless, but can display secondary sex characteristics of one, both, or neither human sex. Mers can be any gender and sexuality, and any two mers may have children regardless of secondary sex characteristics. Mers begin their lifecycle as an egg, which will develop with or without parental care as long as it isn't damaged. Mers emerge from their egg as smaller and weaker than their adult counterparts, but perfectly capable of swimming and generally looking after themselves. Merpeople have longer lifespans than humans, living hundreds of years.

Society
Mers are inherently social creatures and tend to live in groups. Groups can be settled or nomadic. They are intelligent and quick with their hands, with a knack for creating tools, structures, and other, more frivolous, things. Mers have an eye for anything shiny or neat. They like to collect stones, shells, and other pretty objects to make jewelry and ornaments. Music is a large part of any mer society, both singing and playing musical instruments. Some merpeople worship leviathans, and music plays a part in religious ceremonies as well.

Leviathans
Leviathans are creatures of great power and magic. Some are regularly seen in contact with merpeople, while others haven't been heard from in so long their names have passed into legend.

Ailune: A giant manta ray. Associated with fertility and parenthood, this leviathan carries baskets of mer eggs on their wings and delivers them to their parents. They are often seen among merpeople, delivering their charges.

Maru and Zia: Two large whales. This brother-sister pair are muses, patrons of the arts. Occasionally they can be heard singing from the depths.

Selmir: A sea serpent. She is rumored to grant wishes at a price, if you can find her.

Mordris: A monstrous eel. He is associated with wisdom, and randomly emerges from the depths to offer it.

Common
Human hair, natural skin colors, round/slit pupils, waist fin, custom tail fin, none/one set of visible gills, webbing between fingers

Uncommon
Fur/feather hair, unnatural skin colors, custom pupil, custom tongue, cheek fins, body fins, custom ear fins, multiple sets of visible gills (max 3)

Rare
Head fin(s), no pupil, colored sclera, custom teeth, horns/spines, lures, jellyfish bell, squid/octopus head, single eye

Legendary
Creature tails (jellyfish, shark, crab, etc.), multiple eyes (max 8), multiple arms (max 6), bio-luminescence,

Your level determines how many merpeople you can have, as well as a few other privileges. You level up by developing your characters and the world they live in.

Levels
Completing the tasks listed under one level gets you to the next level. There are no minimums for writing or art until level 6+. Roleplays may be used to level if they meet the minimum word counts. Ordered art may be used to level.

Most tasks are very open ended! We're all just here to have fun.

Level 0: 1 mer + 0 legendaries
-Get your first mer
-Create a thread/website
-Give your first mer a personality or history

Level 1: 3 mers + 1 legendary, trading unlocked!
-Draw or write about two of your mers interacting
-Describe the area in which at least one of your mers lives
-Describe one of your mer's beliefs (religious, spiritual, open to interpretation...)

Level 2: 5 mers + 1 legendary, breeding unlocked!
-Draw or write about one of your mers meeting a leviathan! (if none of the official ones appeal to you, feel free to make your own)
-Draw or write about one of your mer's experiences with romance
-Draw or write about one of your mers interacting with a merchild or egg

Level 3: 7 mers + 1 legendary
-Draw or write about something tragic that happened to one of your mers
-Describe the relationship between two of your mers
-Describe one of your mer's way of life

Level 4: 10 mers + 1 legendary
-Draw or write about a negative interaction between two of your mers
-Draw or write about a positive interaction between two of your mers
-Give one of your mers a personality or history

Level 5: 15 mers + 1 legendary
-Draw or write about one of your mer's experiences with death
-Draw or write about one of your mers interacting with an ocean creature
-Describe how one of your mers sees themself

Level 6+: +5 mers every level, +1 legendary every 10th level (level 10, 20, 30, etc)
-Give a personality or history to 2 mers
-Draw or write 2 scenes of your choice (200+ words, flat color w/ simple background)
-Draw or write about 2 mers (misc development/character art/etc)

This feature is currently unavailable! HMs may still be given out, but not yet redeemed.

Artists will post on this thread when they open. Prices will be listed on the artist bulletin when it is created.

Rules
1. Please do not post a custom form unless an artist has stated they are open.
2. You can only get one custom a month.
3. Customs may only be ordered with common/uncommon traits without a special ticket.
4. Only post one custom form at a time, even if multiple artists are open.

Honorable Mentions
Artists may give out HMs to acknowledge deserving forms when declaring the winner of competitions. HMs can then be redeemed for custom tickets.

5 HMs: semi custom ticket (pick color palette and one trait)

10 HMs: normal custom ticket (acts like a normal custom)

20 HMs: rare custom ticket (adds one rare trait to a normal custom)

SS merpeople can only be traded for other merpeople or given away. No SS mers should be sold or purchased.

Rules
1. Both parties must be at least Level 1 to trade mers.
2. You can gift mers at any level.
3. You must own a mer for 2 months before you can trade it.
4. You must own a mer for 1 month before you can gift it.
5. When a mer changes hands, the former owner must post a form on the archive and both parties must post on the mer's page.
