The snowy landscape was mostly silent, except for the sounds of giggling and laughing coming from two racing silhouettes. One was a dark purplish colour that slowly faded into white near the tail, while the other was white with several different shades of pale icy blue.
" Give it up, Orion! You know I'm just gonna catch you again, like I did last time!"
" In your dreams, Nisha!"
No sooner had those words left his mouth, did the young dragon then find himself running headfirst into a tree trunk. The following pain was excruciating to say the least, and Orion swore he heard a loud ringing in his ears as he stumbled back. He barely even heard Nisha's warning, before something fell on top of him. Taking him by surprise and knocking him clean to the ground. Any other noise that followed was muffled by the fluffy ice cold barrier around him.
Once he was able to regain his wits, the young dragon immediately pushed upwards with a jolt. Only to be met with roaring laughter once his head managed to poke through the ice surface. Icy turquoise eyes immediately glared at the smaller dragon, who was currently curled up on the floor with tears in her eyes.
" Quit laughing! It wasn't that funny!", he snapped. Managing to wiggle the rest of his body out of the pile of snow, only to find himself face planting the ground quickly afterwards and causing another fit of laughter to leave his friend's mouth. Pulling his lips backwards into a silent snarl, he then gave an icy glare up at the tree for causing him such embarrassment.
" Y-you should have seen y-your face! I-I've never seen someone look so terrified at a pile of snow b-before", Nisha snickered. Now finding it incredibly hard to breathe, considering that her companion currently looked like a literal walking snowman. Even her stomach was in pain from the amount of laughter she had produced. However, before she could even stutter out another word, she was suddenly tackled by a pale icy blue and white blur. Causing the two to roll around as they playfully swiped at each other, until they came to a sudden stop with Orion on top.
" Apologise for what you just said!"
" Never!"
Nisha's defiant cry broke out into a shriek, as Orion dug his claws into her sides. Not enough to harm her, but definitely enough to tickle her. Causing the female to crumble into a wheezing mess as she tried to push her friend off of her. Only for her attempts to be in vain." S-Stop T-That T-Tickles!", she begged.
" Not until the little mouse apologises to the wolf for insulting him!", Orion replied. An amused grin appearing on his face, as he continued with his merciless torture. No matter what kind of mood he is in, or what kind of situation he is dealing with. Just hearing the eastern dragon laugh and being able to make her laugh, always somehow manages to bring both a smile to his face and brighten up his day.
" O-ok! O-ok! I-I'm s-sorry! N-now please stop!"
With a smug look on his face, the young dragon stepped off of his friend. Allowing the other to catch her breath as she slowly staggered back up to her feet. However, Orion didn't say anything, instead he just chuckled when Nisha roughly shoved him. A chuckle that soon turned into a full on laugh when the female went on to whisper the word 'meanie' and pouted.
" Says the one who calls herself 'Nisha, the great leader of clan Nýchta'", he teased in reply. Watching with growing amusement as the smaller dragon puffed her chest out with pride. However, that same amusement slowly began to die, as a cold thought suddenly slithered its way into his head. One that carried an awful and horrible truth.
" And? Its true, I will be a great leader, and so will you, I just know it! And the best part? When we are both leaders, we will finally be able to bring peace between both the Nýchta and the Págos clans!", Nisha cheerfully replied. A paw now resting on her chest as she closed her eyes with a prideful grin on her face. However, when she didn't get an immediate reply like she normally did, she slowly opened one eye to glance at her companion. Her heart twisting at the sight of the saddened look within her friend's eyes." Orion?", she asked. This time her voice taking on a far more hesitant and timid tone.
The young male glanced sadly at the ground, all warmth gone from his chest as he tried not to look at his lifetime friend." With both our clans at war with each other, do you really think we'll be able to stay friends for that long? What if the war changes us? What if our clans try to change us? What if we turn against each other?!", he asked. His voice rising a pitch higher with each question. By now fear and worry was clawing at his heart. He didn't want to hurt his only friend. He didn't want her blood on his claws.
He didn't realise he was crying with his eyes closed until he felt two gentle paws cup either side of his face. Causing him to open them once more, and be met with a determined looking Nisha. Even though her own eyes were just as sad as his were, there was a confident smile on her face.
" Nothing is going to break our friendship, and you want to know why? Because we won't let it happen, we are Nisha of clan Nýchta and Orion of clan Págos, and what we say goes, yes, we may come across a few bumps in the road, but as long as we are there for each other, as long as we refuse to listen to our clans, nothing will come between us! I. Am. Sure. Of. It"
" How? How can you-", Orion began. Only to be cut off as two distant familiar voices called out to them. Causing both dragonets to glance in their direction, dread filling their very beings by what it meant.
" Nisha, it is time to go!"
" Orion! Get over here right now!"
It was time to part ways. Permanently this time.
Before Orion could even turn around to say a final goodbye to his friend, he was met by a brief silver light. Only to have a silver shaped star tied to a bit of thread get shoved in his face. Blinking slightly, the young male moved his head back to get a better view of the item. The low hum that emitted from it, telling him it had been made by magic. Icy turquoise eyes then glanced up at the eastern dragon in confusion." Wha-?", he began. Only to be cut off by the smaller female putting it around his neck.
" It is my oath to you as your friend, to remind you that no matter how far apart we may be, a part of me will always be with you, to give you strength, to protect you from your inner demons and to remind you of our friendship", Nisha replied. A rare look of seriousness crossing over her face as she securely wrapped it around the taller dragons neck. Nodding once in grim satisfaction when she was certain it wouldn't easily slip off. Before meeting his gaze once more with a look that would send even the bravest of warriors running." And a promise to find you again, no matter the cost", she added.
Stunned, the taller male glanced down at his newly acquired necklace. Truly and utterly speechless by the conviction in his friend's voice. However, it didn't stop a small grateful smile from appearing on his face. Neither did it stop him from using his own magic to form a transparent snowflake and pass it in turn to the eastern dragon." Then I too, shall join you in this oath, little mouse, no matter what obstacles you may face, this necklace shall protect and guide you through it, for it represents my strength and wit", he replied. Before carefully doing the same thing that she had done to him.
Once that was done, the two then began to head their separate ways. But not before muttering a few final words to each other.
" Until we meet again, Nisha, of the Nýchta clan"
" Until we meet again, Orion, of the Págos clan"

The male smiled softly at the memory, as he gently held the silver star to his chest. Fondness in his eyes as he stared up at the night sky, from where he had been sitting in the caves entrance. He was no longer the same dragon he once was as a hatchling. His backmane had grown in nicely, and his markings have become more detailed with age. But while his body may have changed, his mind was still somewhat the same. Was it scarred from the many years of war? Yes. But his personality had thankfully remained miraculously in tack.
Behind him, a familiar coloured tail shifted in the darkness. Much like him, the eastern dragon no longer looked like her hatchling self. The while that had once covered most of her tail, had been slowly eaten away by the rest of her body's colours. Until there was nothing left but a few decent sized patches. Also like him, Nisha hadn't changed much. Well, except for the fact that she has become even more confident and sassy than she was before. If that were even possible.
" Whose the little mouse now?"
Orion chuckled softly at the memory of their reunion. How the two had swapped heights, and it was now he whose head reached Nisha's shoulder instead of the other way around. At first, he had been worried that she didn't recognise him, but that quickly vanished when she began to tease him mercilessly about the time he ran into a tree.
Casting a glance over his shoulder, the male's eyes slightly softened as they landed on the snowflake tucked neatly beneath Nisha's neck. A symbol, much like the one he was currently holding, that had helped them keep their promises to each other. Maybe that was what had suddenly caused Orion to take a trip down memory lane.
Or maybe he was just getting too sentimental for his age.
Whatever the reason, he was more than happy to remember that memorable day. Mainly because it was the day that the two had solidified their friendship. The one event that had been building up to this very moment. Where the two could now travel side by side, without both the war and their clans interfering with their lives.
And for that, he will never forget that memorable moment. When their friendship was saved.
should i make them a species, or do different dragon adopts every now and then?; I think it would be cool to see them get turned into a species
