Welp. For this kid I tried a lot of things that were outside of my comfy lil box.
As a result, I was frustrated for days but I finally got something down that I'm really proud of <3

This will be a Design the Shine comp, with an entry requirement.
You've got to tell me about a time you tried something new.
No extras, prettying up is okay but won't up your chances.
You must draw or sketch your own shine design. Artistic skill does not matter, creativity is key.

The comp is completely based on the shine design, but your entry

This may sound strange to most, but what I recently tried that was new was listening to new music. Hear me out here. Around my young teenage rebellious years, I only ever explicitly listened to one band. Believe it or not, I’ve only ever been listening to them for almost six years now. I’ve had a huge dedication to them, and their music honestly changed my life for the better. The band is Bullet for my Valentine, and I still listen to them constantly. Around the start of this year I decided to branch out and begin listening to other bands and music. This was honestly one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’ve found so many great bands and some awesome music. I’m not sure why I was so stubborn previously. Honestly my music range has changed so much now and I’m not sure how to explain my favourite type of music anymore. Six years ago, I would’ve settled on metal / Bullet for my valentine and nothing more. But now… I’m glad I took a step out of my comfort zone and listened to music I wouldn’t normally listen to.

Tried Something New:

A few years ago, my social anxiety was bad.

I mean really bad.

Panic attacks in crowds, too scared to go into stores, couldn't speak to people, crying over small things. That kind of anxiety.

The kind that absolutely hindered my chances of getting a job, which was clear to see.

I ended up on this 'work ready' course with a bunch of other misfits (self titled). Was I terrified? Of course. Did I make friends within the first week?

Well, surprisingly, yes.

When you find yourself in a group setting with people dealing with their own problems, you form connections. I was surprised how lovely they were to me.

Part of the course; an overnight camp.

I had the option to stay behind, stay in my comfort zone. Did I?

Well…no.

I went.

I took a three hour road trip crammed into a mini van with people I'd known for less than a month to spend a night in a giant wood cabin in a pine forest.

And I loved every second of it.

We talked. We bonded. We climbed a mountain together (metaphorically and literally, my legs ached for a week). And I'll never forget that view.

I tried making a calzone from scratch a couple weeks ago. It was a fun experience, but I think I messed up the dough somehow because it ended up tasting more like a cheesy biscuit than anything else haha

I have a very hard time making art with materials I can't erase because I'm so afraid of messing up.
Last summer, I was encouraged by my fiance to give oil painting a try. I was pretty nervous going in, because something like that felt so permanent, and I was afraid that if I made a mistake, there would be no going back.
But I decided to try it anyway.
Not only was it the most fun I've probably ever had making traditional art, but it also taught me some super valuable problem solving skills that I've used in my art to this day. And I still oil paint. <33
