Where does this Vix live and why? :
A few snowflakes fell through the leaves of the trees onto her nose, signaling that the storm had arrived. It had been cloudy for days, and winters were harsh here, so she was stockpiling food just in case. She took her prey into her jaws and headed back home to wait out the foul weather.
The old estate was becoming overgrown. When she leapt over the iron fence her gaze immediately fell on the garden, where weeds had overtaken the once beautiful flowers and the hedges no longer resembled hedges due to a lack of trimming. It made her heart heavy, knowing that it had all been lovingly tended in the past. Now it was left to rot.
At the garden's center sat the dark mansion, which only fared a little better. There was a shattered window that Nightshade used to come and go, but otherwise it was unexposed to the elements. A fine layer of dust coated nearly every surface, and it was cold, but it was home.
After adding her catch to the rest of her stash, she headed for the library. It was her favorite room in the house, and when she stepped inside, she tried to remember the warm glow from the fireplace and the desk lamp illuminating the books, giving the room a welcoming feeling.
The now abandoned mansion once belonged to the man who had raised her. He had found her cold and alone in the snow one night and took her into his home. He had fed her, provided shelter as well as companionship. Every night he had read to her, sometimes for hours. As she hopped up onto the sofa to lie down, crossing her paws and resting her head on them, she thought about all the things she had learned here - all the wonderful stories she'd been told.
His death still weighed heavily on her heart, so much that she couldn't bring herself to leave this place. He was no longer there, but the memories were powerful enough to be ghosts that kept her company more than they haunted her.
Deep down she knew it was foolish, but one day, she still hoped to come home and find him there at his desk in the warm glow of the fire light, waiting for her to join him.
