prompt: Ashmask, before joining DawnClan, lived with his younger brother, Thorn. One day, Ash woke up to find that Thorn wasn't in his nest. Assuming that his brother had just gone out to hunt, Ash headed out into the forest to join him. After catching a few mice and finding no sign of his brother, Ash began to worry a little. Where was Thorn? He conducted a more thorough search of the area around their den, and discovered Thorn; or, rather, Thorn's corpse.

Once he had mourned his brother's death, Ash's sorrow quickly changed to anger. Whoever had done this to his brother was going to pay for their crime. He set out, heading away from home with the intention of finding and exacting revenge upon his brother's murderer. He didn't have much of a plan in mind; his anger prevented him from being very rational.

During his travels, Ash stumbled upon DawnClan, a Clan which encouraged others to join for a "new beginning." Ash knew immediately that this would be the perfect place for his brother's killer to hide. No one would question the killer's past; they'd simply brush it off and say something along the lines of "It's all behind you now."

Upon joining DawnClan, Ash took on the a new name: Ashmask. Originally, he assumed he would be named Ashclaw or Ashstrike, after his now angry and defensive personality. However, Runningstar decided to name him after the black patch over his left eye.

When he wasn't out fulfilling his required Clan duties (hunting and patrolling), Ashmask spent his time practicing battle moves with some of the more experienced fighters. He spent a lot of his time training both for the sake of improving his own skills, and in order to determine if any of these battlers was his brother's killer.

During these battle training lessons, Ashmask spent a lot of time with a she-cat named Russetspeck. He slowly began to develop a crush on her, not knowing that she was actually his brother's murderer. Ashmask's near-constant and seemingly-uncalled-for anger has made it difficult for him to make many friends in his new Clan, but Russetspeck, being a bit of an angry cat herself, has been willing to tolerate it so far.
