Here is a Chestnut horse gone grey. The shoulder mark is what's called a bloody shoulder. A bloody shoulder is where a horse greys out, but an area of the body remains the original base color that the horse was before it greyed out. Bloody shoulder marks can be anywhere on a horse though. I've seen them on legs, shoulders, necks, rumps, and even on the face. No one is sure what causes it, but it's a pretty neat phenomenon.
