Ravenwing, the Hollowclan medicine cat, and Bearstar, the Hollowclan leader, had two kits together - Birchkit and Riverkit.

Ravenwing is the daughter of Bluetail and Fallensun, a warrior of Hollowclan and a warrior of Peakclan. Later in her life, Ravenwing became pregnant with Bearstar's kits and gave birth to Birchkit and Riverkit. Instead of losing her medicine cat position, Bearstar pardoned her due to the fact that they were his and that there was no medicine cat apprentice at the time to take her place. Ravenwing asked Shadowpatch, her brother and best friend, to be her son's mentor, and she asked her father Bluetail to be her daughter's mentor, even though the tom cat was almost going to become an elder.
