Uhhh.... What's my pet doing?

I got this pet from the pound (by complete accident, too. I was trying to click the dragon, but it was totally worth not getting for this pet), but they later snuck away. I followed them to the forest, got lost, then saw some lights and found this. I took a picture then after some searching found the path and returned home. The next morning, the pet was back. One question: What was my pet doing?
