welcome to "mushing quest" sled dog adopts! here you will be able to adopt your own sled dogs and build up your mushing team to win competitions and prizes! you'll be able to train your dogs as well as breed them. i hope you enjoy your time here!
[ the dogs are like alaskan huskies, but really have no specific breed. cx ]

- do not complain or whine if you do not win the dog you're trying out for, you can always try again
- do not claim art or designs that are not yours/you did not adopt
- if you take your dogs off-site please give credit with a link to this page
- you can own unlimited dogs, but only two sled dog teams so choose wisely!
- you can not resell your dogs for any form of currency, but pm me if you no longer want them and I will put them up for adoption again
- if you break any of these rules you will be warned, but you will be banned after 2 warnings.

new musher's user manual
[ it is recommended you read all of the manual before starting.
the first 5 subjects are the most important. ]

registering
in order to begin your journey as a musher, you'll have to register first! to do that you must make a kennel where you will house all of your sled dogs. you can do so by making a new topic here. you can also keep all the tasks for training you've completed in your kennel as well; it's up to you what you put in there. c: once you have make your kennel, post the form in the registry page. once you are approved, you can get your first dog!

getting dogs
to start you are allowed one free custom as your starter dog! simply fill out the form and post it here and you'll get your first sled dog. after that there are no more customs. :c
to get more dogs you will have to find a dog up for adoption and apply to adopt them.

training/stats
in order for your dogs to succeed in the races, they will have to be trained. each dog has 4 stats: intelligence, speed, stamina, and strength.

intelligence affects how well the dog can stay on the trail and make good decisions; important for a lead dog
speed determines how fast the dog can run; important for sprint races
stamina shows how long the dog can keep a steady pace; important for sprint races
strength affects how well the dog can pull the sled; important for wheel dogs

all dogs begin with different stats, but you can improve them through writing/drawing tasks or you can buy training hours with a professional trainer.
the full list of tasks is located on the races/training page as well as the prices for a professional trainer.

dog team and gear
before you can even think about racing, you will need at least 2 dogs and full gear for all dogs participating. you need to purchase a harness and booties which can be bought at the mush mart.
there are 3 types of dog teams. a 2 dog team, a 6 dog team, and a 12 dog team. in 6 and 12 dog teams you need to decide who will be the lead dogs, swing dogs, team dogs, and wheel dogs.

races & ranking
now the moment we've all been waiting for! the races! there are 3 types of races: sprint, mid-distance races, and long-distance races. mid-distance and long-distance races are only available for 6 and 12 dog teams. in order to enter a race, you must have all the necessary gear and you must post the proper form in the race topic. the current races and more information are all located in the races/training topic.
ranking is based on a dog's total stats. there is a top male and top female dog. the dog ranking can be found on the registry topic.

breeding + studding
of course in order to improve your dog team further, you will have to breed your dogs with other champions or with your own. females have 5 breeding slots and males have unlimited. each parent will pass down their stats to their pups. trained stats and stats earned through items don't count, but the pups will have better base stats than the parents. there will be 2-4 pups in each litter. if you own both dogs, then you can keep up to 2 pups, but if you bred with another user, you each may only keep 1-2 depending on the litter size. the remaining pups will be put up for adoption. after the pups are born, they will be aged up and put into the adult lines in 1 week where they can start training, but they can't be added to your sled team until 2 weeks have passed.
breeding with your own dogs is simple. just fill out the proper form and pm it to the artist you wish to breed your dogs and send the proper payment. the artist will then work on your new litter!
breeding with another user's dogs is a bit different. you can only breed with another user's dogs if their dog is up for stud and you pay them through MQ currency. then you fill out the form and pm it to the artist you wish to do your breeding.
you can only put your male dog up for studding and a list of the current studs(+ more info) and the current breeding artists are found on the registry topic.

MQ currency + conversion
MQ currency is the money used here. you will start off with 500 MQ and you can earn MQ through winning races or by buying them with pets. your current MQ amount is listed next to your kennel in the registry.
to purchase MQ, simply send a trade with a message saying that it's for MQ.

★ = dominant genes
⬖ = co-dominant genes

All genes are listed in order from most dominant to least; this does not count for co-dominance. All genes require two copies of a series.
#1 - K Series - Decides how the B series shows

⬖ K - Overrides series #6; gives solid black pigment coat.
⬖ Kbr - Gives brindled coat
☆ k - Allows series #7/red pigment to show in the coat.

#2 - E Series - Appears over the A series

★ Em - Gives dog a black pigment mask on face.
⬖ E+ - Extends the mask down the chest and even to the stomach and feet. Co-dominant to Em.
☆ E - Allows black in coat, no mask.
☆ e - A fully red coat (recessive red).

#3 - B Series - Base color on the dog

Also affects nose and eye colors/pigment
★ B - Black pigment.
☆ b - Black turns into liver (brown).

#4 - D Series - Base Coat Dilution

Also affects nose and eye colors/pigment
★ D - No dilution, leaves the coat black or liver.
☆ d - Dilution; black into blue, liver into isabella.

#5 - Sl Series - Makes a dog solid white, regardless of other genes

★ Sl - No silvering.
☆ sl - Makes the dog solid white.

#6 - A Series - Determines how much of the B/D series cover the dog

⬖ Ay - Sable (Tipped, Clear, Shaded).
⬖ Aw - Grizzle (Agouti).
⬖ At - Tanpoints.
☆ a - Recessive solid black (fully black pigment dog).
☆ as - Seal.

#7 - C "Chinchilla" Series - Modifies the intensity of red

★ C - Normal red pigment (darkest red shade).
☆ Cch - Red lightened to fawn.
☆ Ce - Red lightened to cream.
☆ Cw - Red lightened to silver (lightest shade).

#8 - S Series - Most dominant, decides the white extent

⬖ S - Residual white or no white.
⬖ Si - Irish white (across neck and chest).
⬖ Sp - Piebald white .
⬖ Sw - Extreme piebald white (large amounts of white).

#9 - M Series - Controls merle

Double merles often have serious health issues
★ M - Black pigment areas are merle.
☆ m - No merling.

#10 - H Series - A merle modifier; Harlequin

Requires at least one M (series #10) to show
★ Hh - Harlequin.
☆ h - No harlequin.

Harlequin is an embryonic lethal gene, meaning any puppy with HH will be reabsorbed and not birthed.
#11 - Tw Series - A merle modifier; Tweed

Requires Mm to show; does not show on MM (double merles)
★ Tw - Tweed.
☆ tw - No tweed.

#12 - T series - White marking modifiers

Only shows if a dog has white markings
⬖ Tr - Roaning.
⬖ T - Ticking.
⬖ Ts - Dalmatian spots (large spots, ears and around eyes are usually colored).
☆ tt - no ticking or roaning, solid white.

#13 - G Series - Greys out color in various stages, but may leave patches of fur unaffected

★ G - Varying degrees of greying is present on the coat, gets lighter with age.
☆ g - No graying.

#14 - U Series - Gives light undersides, cream or white "points"

★ U - Urajiro.
☆ u - No urajiro.

#15 - Fur Series - Distinguishes Fur Type

★ W - Wirehaired.
☆ w - Normal hair.
