I nuzzled Lullaby's nose. "I'll be be back..." Maybe I thought to myself silently. I stared into Lullaby's eyes. They were filled with fear... and love.
"You can't leave!" Lullaby wailed, her tone pulling at my heart. "You can't leave me, and...." Her voice trailed away, and she stared at her giant, swollen stomache. "They need me there." "But I need you HERE!"
I licked Lullaby on the cheek. "I'll be back, I swear." We had a moments silence, then I flew up to join the rest of the dragon troops. I looked one more time at my beautiful wife, with tears in my eyes, until we disappeared behind En Helgri mountains, and I saw her no more.
