clan thread: NocturneClan prompt:Emberpaw's situation was different. He wasn't called Emberkit before- he's always been Emberpaw since they met. Even though that was only when he was just barely over a month old, the she-cat, who would be, in a matter of speaking, his mentor, gave it to him, explaining it was to signify his almost wise spirit, even for such a young kit.
Emberpaw first met Snowsight when she offered to help his mother hunt. The two she-cats fought a lot; Snowsight looked scary, too, which scared him. He had only just sort of figured out how to walk, when his mother and his siblings were forced from there home. Most memories of this time are a blur, but he recalls being cold and wet, and hearing angry shouts as Snowsight and his mother first met.
It wasn't long until Snowsight was there every day to help them. They were just helpless to her; she wasn't afraid to show to the mother and kits that she thought they were weak. At first Emberpaw and his siblings collectively agreed she was just mean, but Emberpaw later realized they had accessed her all wrong.
There was another storm the night they got separated. The mother had gone out to hunt, more assured of her skills, but not properly knowing the dangers yet. When Snowsight came to check up on the newcomers to her forest, she as greeted with only the five kits. There was urgency in her voice as she assured them she'd be right back, which Emberpaw's stronger brother- none had names- picked up quickly. He insisted they follow her, afraid their mother was in danger.
So they did. Through various means and twists they were separated. His sisters ventured into the human yard- his eldest brother vanished into the underbrush after a loud noise startled him. Finally, the smallest brother had fallen behind while they were walking. Emberpaw was left alone in the wood.
Snowsight found him the next morning, hiding from owls and other predators in the hollow of a tree. There was sorrow in her pale eyes as the fluffy she-cat let the little kit warm himself against her fur. Emberkit knew then his mother was likely dead, or taken by humans. Snowsight never told him which.
Since that day, Snowsight became his mother. They searched for the other kits, discovering only his youngest brother. After days more she gave up on the others. She named them Emberpaw and Quietpaw, and told them marvelous stories about her old clan and home. As they neared five months she taught them how to hunt, starting with beetles and lizard, and later teaching them how to catch mice, and track down even birds. Emberpaw is very close to Snowsight; she is not only his mentor, but his mother since his real one was lost, and his best friend. He and his brother both have entrusted their lives to her, and await the day they'll repay her for her teaching, love, kindness and care.
