Talise shivered as she followed her father around town, most of her belongings stuffed into a lag he carried with him. Her paws were covered in mud, her coat soaked through with rain. The dark clouds had come out of nowhere and opened up in a torrent of grey-blue water that only made everything seem bleaker. She didn't know where he was taking her, but she wasn't sure she would like it.

He had been very angry lately, ever since her mother left about a month ago, and she knew he blamed it on her. She was only seven and had done everything she thought she was supposed to... Had she somehow made a mistake? She shivered again. The rain was cold... she just wanted to go inside somewhere and dry off, but she didn't dare say anything in case her father got mad at her for it.

She kept her head down, watching his paws and his lashing tail, carefully avoiding his jewel whenever it got too close to hitting her. When he stopped suddenly she almost ran into his legs. She looked up to see him talking to a white and blue sima. Their voices were lowered so she couldn't make out much of what they were saying, but he handed the sima her things and then walked away.

She looked up and found beautiful, kind blue eyes staring down at her. "Hello Talise," she said kindly. "I'm going to take care of you from now on, okay?"

Talise hesitated a moment. She didn't know this sima at all, but she seemed nice, and anything had to be better than being yelled at all the time. She nodded and followed her to her new home.

Tai was always a little more... Adventurous than others her age. This time though, she ended up going too far. It was dark and misty outside, she ended up running into a pier. Scared and nervous, she hid, falling asleep under a turned over canoe.

The next morning, a Sima a little older than her shook her softly and invited Tai to go home with her, to which Tai agreed wholeheartedly
