Short story: 700/700
It was late in the day and Merry still hadn't found the place she was looking for. Though she was young, she was tenacious and always willing to do the work. Today, the work was finding Pie's Daycare. She was a message runner for a place a few towns away from this one, so it took her most of the day to get here, something she wasn't too worried about. It took awhile to find a new place, and this one, was very new to her. She had, of course, heard of Mama Pie's, what kid hadn't? It was THE place to be if you wanted to play and have fun. But, Merry didn't have a lot of time for fun, unfortunately. All her short life she'd lived with in a tiny town that housed the best iron workers, and she'd worked for them the moment she could run. Merry was fast and light on her feet and love to run more than anything else in the world. It was like flying, she'd always thought. And today was no different. She ran full scale down a winding path that would, hopefully, lead her to Mama Pies.
She was just rounding a corner when she slammed into something soft and warm that let out a yelp of surprise.
"Oh my! I'm so sorry!" She cried, picking herself up off the other viscet and trying to help her up.
"No no, its ok" the other viscet said, dusting herself off.
"I'm Merry," she said, anxiously looking over the smaller brown and white viscet.
" Fauna", the other female said, smiling and adjusting her scarf.
"What are you doing out here running so fast?" Fauna asked, curiosity written on her face.
"Oh, I have a message for Mrs. Pie from the iron workers, they've finished something from her, I don't know what" she said, before Fauna could ask. "I only know they're done with whatever it is."
"OHHH I bet it something amazing!" Fauna breathed, excitedly. She almost jumped in place, then grabbed Merry's hand and took off down the path. Merry was racing along side her, laughing at the sheer joy of running with a friend. She'd never really had friends before.
Too soon they reached the place, and boy what a place it was! She couldn't even describe all the wonders before her, other than they stemmed from a giant tree made into a house, with playscapes everywhere and a slide that came down from way up in the tree that looked like it would be the most amazing bit of fun ever!
"Oh my!" Merry cried, her eyes wide and bright.
"Come on!" Fauna tugged her arm from where she'd stopped, not even noticing that she had, in fact stopped, she started running with Fauna again, and together they headed toward a tall, beautiful, viscet female, who had the most caring and motherly expression on her face as she called out to the various young viscets running around being silly and having adventures.
"Mama PIE!" Fauna shouted above the noise, as she hauled Merry along with her. "Mama Pie this is Merry! She has a message for you!" Fauna shouted, excitedly.
"Oh? You do, do you? Well lets hear luv," Mama Pie said, smiling down at her. Suddenly Merry felt a bit shy but she smiled back anyway.
"Your order is ready, Mrs. Pie. Galloway Ironworks has completed it and will be hauling it down here in a few days to install." She quoted Burk her, kind of foster father? Perfectly.
"Well! That IS good news! Thank you young one, here's a bit for your troubles, and why don't you go play while I write out my reply. I'm sure Burk wont mind in the least!"
Without more urging Merry took off after Fauna, giggling they ran to the tree/house where Fauna showed Merry how to get up to the top to the slide, and they both took turns sliding all the way down, it was scary at first, but oh so much fun! And they became fast friends after that. Merry was almost sad to leave, but Fauna promised she'd come find her and they'd come back to play.
