Halloween RPW #5

    .
Horns are generally a symbol of wrong doings, and therefore the more horns a wolf has (or the longer they are) the more the wolf had done wrong in their life. Halos are a symbol of innocence and good, thusly a wolf who has a larger or brighter halo has done more good in their life. Every wolf has both horns and a halo, as all wolves have done both ‘good’ and ‘bad’ in their lives. 'Good' and 'bad' are defined by the wolf themselves, there are no absolute right or wrongs that get you bigger horns or halo. So a wolf that think they can do no wrong will likely have small horns and a very large halo.

"Fire blinds us, just like darkness. But darkness blinds with absence. With loss."
    "What does fire blind with?"
    "Beauty."

"But sometimes, there's a greater beauty yet to come."

      Name: Jack
      What is this wolf hiding?:
People hide many things: illnesses, money, secrets.
Orwell feared what we hate would ruin us: Huxley feared what we love will ruin us. For Jack, he believes that most secrets ruin people.
There are numerous, many things he does not hide. In fact, he calls himself the famed 'open book'- he shares many things with many people, be it a close friend or a distant stranger on the bus. The coveted secret of 'where is your secret halloween candy stash' was not a secret for Jack. He doesn't hide his treasured books or artifacts, he doesn't hide his money. He speaks of his health and illness, of his living situation and his family.

So what does Jack hide? He hides the most important thing of all: himself.

It sounds strange when one wonders what it means. How does he hide himself? He is not withdrawn, and he is not necessarily an introvert. Jack instead hides his feelings, his emotions, his actions: cold, distant, Jack seems to disassociate with himself around anyone he is near. It seems what he hides is even from himself: Jack doesn't really know who he is. What is his favorite food? The question and others liked it always troubled him, because he didn't know. He never felt he could be "himself", whatever that could be, around anyone, including his family.

His horns and halo are 'even'. For such a huge misdeed, hiding his personality from even himself, his horns match the intensity of his halo. Jack isn't necessarily "good" or "bad": he's just Jack, a seemingly shell of a person he used to be, if he even used to be anyone to begin with. He struggles to keep his horns from growing from his secret, consistently throwing himself into situations to make his halo grow bigger. He's a "model" wolf in his community, but is famed to have earned his horns from being so blunt to others, being honest over trying to sugar-coat.

Jack isn't really sure why he hides such a thing. He's done it by instinct: the way a subordinate loses their personality to submit to a higher up. He hides his own personality in such a manner that he has lost himself in the process, not knowing who he was.

This has troubled Jack: it eventually unsettled him, to where he had decided to leave his community and his family in order to find himself again. The way people travel to monks to try and find 'happiness', Jack travels to try and find himself again. While he has made some gains, he still struggles to not hide it from other people, leaving it to be the only thing that Jack hides to this day: he hides himself.

Name: Rune ["secret lore"] Eld ["fire"]

What is this wolf hiding?: As a young girl, Rune was told that she was never going to amount to anything. She was average in every aspect of her life, whether that be looks, intelligence, physical activity, or social skills. Everything she participated in put her in the middle of the crowd. She blended into the background and Rune was fine with that because her mind held no desires of being seen. Therefore, she led a dull and seemingly uneventful life. That is, until she experienced her first loss, when her brilliance of passion was born...

~Rune held the limp bunny in her arms. The warmth had long left its fur and its last breath had long since left its lungs, but she sat in the grass, holding the small body in her arms. She could feel the sun beginning to set and the rays of sun leave the sky, but she sat with no signs of moving. A shallow hole was dug in front of her in the dirt. A shallow grave for a shallow life. Rune looked down at the bundle again and let her eyes drift out of focus.

The air around her seemed to stand still. All sounds had begun to fade with the last signs of day. The colors of the foliage seeped away into a dull palette. How long had she been sitting there? Rune was not sure. But, she also did not care. Her innocence had been stripped from her and the rest of the world held no mentions of caring. She sat in the silence, letting her body slowly numb in the absence of warmth.

As time dragged on, a figure moved behind her. Rune gave no signs of having heard the figure, remaining in her frozen position. The figure crouched next to her and looked into her blank face. He appeared to care for the young girl, but she displayed no emotion as his eyes roamed her expression. In the chilling atmosphere, the smell of burnt wood reached the figure. He paused before resuming his process of assessing the damage that had been dealt to the child. Death, after all, was a difficult concept for one so young to understand.

A breeze brushed past the pair crouching in the grass. Having concluded his assessment, the newcomer turned his face to the sky. His breath clouded in the air as he spoke towards the darkening hour. "Death causes so much hurt and anguish to those closest to it." He looked back at Rune. She made no movements, but he could tell she was listening so he continued. "You were the closest this time. There are no words that will make that pain go away. And I'm sorry." He let his gaze drift to the empty grave. Rune did the same. An audible shift waved through the ever-approaching night. The emotions she had spent so much time drowning began to resurface and her eyes pooled as the branches swayed and a nearby bush rustled with life.

In the world around them, time began to move again, but she was not ready for that yet. She was not ready for the pain to enter her heart again.

The figure looked to Rune, placing his arm around her. She quieted a sniffle and turned her head to stare into his eyes. They sparkled in the last rays of light. Her soul was clearly visible. The anguish beneath was unveiled. Rune's voice cracked and her lips quivered. "Then what do I do to make it go away?"

His heart ached at her sorrow. He wished he could fight her negative emotions and vanquish her pain.

The figure gathered a shaking breath of frigid cold air.

But alas, he could not. All he could do was share his wisdom. With all the strength he could muster, he smiled down at her. Sweet lies did not sugarcoat his words, for a bitter truth was what Rune needed to hear.

"Oh, little one, you can't." Had he stopped there, she may have fallen into despair, but this was a teaching moment. This hauntingly empty night would not be one she would soon forget. He took another breath and looked back up to the sky. It had blackened to a charcoal. Along with the smell of burnt wood, a vision of a smoldering fire came to mind. Strengthened by this thought, he spoke again. "However, I urge you to take this feeling and use it as a reference for those who have lost a parent, sibling, child, or friend. Imagine the scale of their pain. Would you wish that upon anyone?" The intensity of his voice opened Rune's eyes to the cruel world that others were forced to experience.

Rune's eyes overflowed as the stabbing feeling in her chest was fantasized on a much greater magnitude. With disbelief and horror, she shook her head violently. How could anyone bear such pain? Would she wish that upon anyone? "Never!" Before she had realized it, her voice echoed, breaking the silence as she shouted into the darkness.

Recognizing her emotions, he pulled her in for a tight hug, squinting his eyes shut to hide his emotions. His pride in her purity of heart. "Then do whatever you can to keep others from knowing such pain."

As the words sunk in, she nodded her head slowly and let them spark a passion within her. A passion to save those on the brink of death from bringing pain to those closest to them. Strengthening her new purpose, Rune pulled away. The burning smell now consumed her and her soul felt like the crackling wood that fed it. She slowly stood. The darkness wrapped around her as she looked at the grave of this young rabbit. "I will save lives to spare the hearts of their loved ones." And with this vow fresh on her lips, Rune placed the small bundle into the shallow hole.

She turned to leave, the cold finally reaching her stiff bones, but the figure placed a hand on her arm. The night consumed the sky above and a sharp wind caused Rune to shield her eyes. However, his words could just be heard over the chaos of branches. Rune glanced behind but the mysterious figure was already gone. Despite this, his words lingered in her mind.

"Guard your newfound passion. An exposed flame can be snuffed out."~

LIES CUT THE HEART -- --
              XXXXXXXSECRETS SCAR THE SOUL
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
    - - - ❝ look at how big her horns are! ❞

There were two; Meira and Tynan. They were born of different blood, yet they were the children of Lenir, valley between two moons and tranquil village where stars rained over the hills. The village was cursed, however, and was surrounded by a dark forest full of creatures whose names were never to be uttered. Every night came noises from the forest, but they were not frightening screams that you would expect. They were songs, luring, enchanting. Sweet melodies that flowed over the entire village like warm honey. There were no other sounds except the lullabies; they were powerful, ruling, almost like a siren's song but it belonged to Earth. Those who followed the songs never came back.

Meira was the one that people would turn to for advice. She was beautiful, in the sense that she was innocent. She was smart, cunning, wise and kind; yet she was curious. She was known for her habit of always wanting to find something out, and she always got her way. Despite being smart, she could not see the consequences of her actions, and that earned her a reputation in Lenir. But she had power over them with charming words that could sway a thousand armies.

Tynan was quite different. He could see the consequences of what he did, but he chose to ignore them. He was strong in heart and mind, but he lacked faith. Meira was stronger than Tynan, and she could move his heart with a single word. There was something sly and dark about Tynan, and he was somehow always getting into trouble with the people of Lenir. They disliked him greatly, and Tynan was proud of that.

Meira was the strength that Tynan needed, and Tynan was the little brother Meira never had. They had each other.

One night, Meira found the ethereal singing of the shadows to be stronger than ever. "Look, little brother. The forest calls me." she whispered to Tynan, who whimpered loudly and covered his ears. "Sister, I do not like the sounds, they carry evil in them." But Meira did not listen. She yearned to go to the forest, and the singing only got louder and louder and louder. Then the singing became more powerful, and finally nothing could stop Meira, for she truly believed the singing was meant for her.

"Little brother, I must go in the forest."

The small wolf looked at her, taking a glimpse at her fiery and determined eyes. "Sister," he whispered, "Please do not! I do not want to lose you." but Meira had made up her mind. She was to leave that night, and there was nothing in her way. "Little brother, you do not have to stay, come with me and we shall venture to the stars! We will meet gods, and we will speak to the moons!" Tynan did not care for any of those things she offered, he feared only for her safety, so he agreed. They left Luminia with only the shelter of the pale moons.

Despite the luminescent light of the twin moons, shadows flickered and danced upon luscious trees, whose thick leaves hid the evil from their eyes. Creatures stirred in the darkness, but Meira was not moved. The song thrummed through the entire forest, and it was clear that not only the creatures, but the actual woods was alive. Tynan stuck close to Meira, but once they brushed each other and he realised that Meira was still and quiet. "Sister? Are you unwell? We should go back if you want." he shakily whispered. Meira looked at him with big eyes. "Little brother, can you not hear? The singing has stopped."

The roar came out of nowhere. The entire forest vibrated with the force of the noise, and the silence that hang over them like drapes only made it worse. Meira and Tynan stood frozen in their spot, and there was nothing, nothing until the obvious sound of big footsteps upon damp grass. The trees cracked and split, they could hear it from where they were. Meira ran first, grabbing Tynan's small paws, gripping them tightly for fear that they should be separated. They jumped through trees, climbed over roots and branches of thorns. The forest moved and screamed, and it was as if the fauna itself was stopping them from reaching safety. "Sister! Sister!" A soft ringing came from few feet behind her. Meira noticed that in her fear she had let go of Tynan's paw. "Sister, the trees are holding onto me! They will not let go!" he looked up at her with fear, eyes which she will never forget for as long as she lived. "Sister, I will not make it. You must go." he whispered.

Those words were the loudest thing she had ever heard, even louder than the singing, the roar, the rush of blood in her ears as she ran. She soon came to the safety of the light of Luminia, but she had left a part of her behind. She collapsed on stone, and a pain overcame her as she slowly touched her aching head. Horns as big as antlers sprouted from her temples, and the tears came flowing. Tears that stained the marble floor and tears that cut her heart.

Tynan was declared missing a few days after. They saw that Meira had strange things growing from her head, but they paid no attention to that. The elders did so too, but they always looked at her funny. Luminia was small, and no secret could go pass the eyes of the people. They said that Tynan was "always a bad one" and that the song of the forest was too strong for him, but you know that's not true, don't you?

What is this wolf hiding?: Ashlynn is hiding the fact that she murdered her nephews and nieces’ parents. You would think that such an intense fact would cause the poor girl to have larger or more horns, but it is a hard thing to gage in this situation. Ashlynn had always loved her sister and her family, although she had always felt that there was something slightly off since her sister had begun dating her husband. She had always let it go, till the one day she was babysitting their children while they were on a business trip and stumbled across facts that were too awful to ignore. Ashlynn’s sister and her husband were assassins, and the idea of it drove her into despair. The children that she had adored had to be saved from their parents, and so when they returned, Ashlynn murdered them. She isn’t really sure how; her brain has locked that memory out so that she can’t remember. But that doesn’t matter, because she remembers staring down at their dead bodies and the hatred for herself that blossomed with the sight. She fled without the kids she had meant to rescue, and died a few days later. Those who knew her said it was for guilt she refused to speak of, as there never really was something identifying the cause. After her death, the guilt of what she had done threatened to consume her, and still is a problem to this day. It is why her horns are so large and why she is so often alone and weeping - while she may have done the right thing to attempt and save her family and kill two murders, killing does something to a wolf that can never truly be undone. The guilt of carrying two deaths on her paws is more than Ashlynn can handle.

He had forgotten that he had made abdeal, but never did his end, so they wanted him dead. He never told his other friends what had happened, and never got the chance to ask further on the matter when synth went selectively mute
