Flying fox gender: Female - she/her
Tell me their story: Kess struggled much throughout her childhood with her disability. She rarely left the house, and received her education in her home - and despite the extra time and one-on-one attention she received she continued to struggle with learning. She was far behind in her studies in comparison to others her age, and she barely made it through elementary.
In middle school, her parents decided to send her to a special school specifically for the blind. She would receive top-quality education and even more one-on-one attention, and she'd be living on school grounds. Kess wasn't happy with the idea of being away from home and family, but her family insisted that it was the best option for her.
In her new school, Kess was terribly nervous constantly. She felt overwhelmed by the sounds around her, and the commotion she sensed in this packed environment. She didn't feel comfortable being around others, despite the fact that they shared her struggles. She just wanted to go home.
...
However, as time passed, Kess began to accept her situation – and she decided to make the most out of this new world.
She didn't quite open up to others, and continued to be quite antisocial....
...but she accepted the help of the staff, and tried to put more focus on her education.
Over time she was able to catch up in her education, and by late high school she was working at the same level as her peers.
...
Kess grew an interest in the subject of history, and later attended a higher education program with a focus on history. She received accommodations for her disability in the school she attended and was provided assistance similar to that of which she received in her original school, but she was surprisingly self-sufficient in general. She'd grown quite a bit from her experience away from home.
It was in her higher education program that she befriended someone for the first time as well. He was a young student like her named
Kaijo. He, unlike her, was not blind – and had an interest in music more than anything. They often got together, and he would play her his favorite orchestral pieces while they studied together. He ended up being quite the help, actually – but she'd never admit it.
After graduating, they both felt somewhat lost. They'd been boarding on school grounds, and now had to move into their own places. Neither of them knew where to start.
Still being friends, they decided to become roommates for the time being. They moved into an apartment together while they worked to pursue their own interests – Kaijo in classical music education and performances, and Kess in teaching history subjects.
This is where Kess is now. Her story continues...
