In the RP Legend Clan, I have three characters named Spottedpaw, Icepaw, and Springpaw. The were first found, as kits, wandering around in their territory, mewing for their parents. Notice how I said I had three characters, and their are four kits. It'll explain that in the story. Their mother's name is Sadie, and she's the queen nursing them, and their father's name is Tux, and he's not featured in this picture. So, here's Spottedpaw's, Icepaw's, and Springpaw's story about how they "lost" their parents.
"Sadie, come on."
"Not without my kits."
"Please," Tux said, his green eyes widening in plead. "You can't keep them. You know that. You'll die."
"I'll take my chances." Sadie replied coolly.
"Please Sadie," Tux said, tucking his white head into her shoulder. "I can't lose you."
Sadie sighed. "You know I love you, but my kits need their mother."
"But I told you a place where they'll be taken good care of!" Tux said, laying down next to her. "They can get an adopted mother, and you can live."
Sadie's eyes flashed with irritation. "They don't need an adopted mother while their real one is still alive."
"You're committing suicide. It's freezing out, you're running low on milk, you're injured, and you just ran over ten miles, while pregnant, and just gave birth."
"What's your point? I almost died to give birth to my kits before, and I will die to take care of them." Sadie winced a little, as she felt the pain in her leg where she had fallen on it. She tried not to show it though, but Tux saw and nodded.
"See? Injured. You'll barely last another minute, and as I said, I can't lose you." Tux's green eyes were filled with pain and worry, and his white pelt was covered in frost.
Sadie sighed.
Tux said softly, "I love them too, you know. And it breaks my heart to have to leave them, but I can't lose you too."
Sadie was silent.
"Sadie?" Tux said softly.
"One of their heartbeats stopped." Sadie was staring at the smallest one, a tortoiseshell, like herself.
"Feather? Feather's..." Tux looked in disbelief as one their kits, the smallest one, named Feather, gave a final breath, then went limp. Sadie nudged the kit once with her muzzle, then threw her head back in a painful howl.
"She's gone!" Sadie started crying. Tux could only stare, as the tears formed in his eyes and ran down his cheeks. After a few moments of silent crying, Tux put his tail of Sadie's shoulders.
"See. We have to leave them with them. It's their and our only chance. Maybe we can visit them one day." Tux said softly. "That away they won't end up like Feather."
Sadie only sniffed, and stared at her four kits for a while, three alive and warm, one cold and dead. "Fine." Sadie said, her voice sounding hoarse.
Tux stared st her in surprise. He hadn't anticipated that he'd win. "Fine? Are you sure."
Sadie sniffed again, and said, " Spotted, Ice, and Spring are my kits and I have to sacrifice to save them."
Tux got up and started digging a hole. Sadie looked at him in question. "What are you doing?" She asked.
"Feather needs a grave." Tux said. He continued digging for a while, until he said, "That's deep enough."
Sadie licked her dead kit's cheek one more time, as Tux took Feather's body away from her, and gently set it in the grave. She couldn't watch as he covered it back up with dirt.
Tux walked back to Sadie and said, "We'll leave in the morning." Sadie nodded mutely. The two mates and their, now three, kits watched the sun rise up over the hill that they were sleeping on, and when dawn first hit, a raven's feather floated out of the sky and landed on Feather's grave.
Sadie and Tux rose to their feet, and Tux grabbed Ice in his jaws, while Sadie grabbed Spring. Spotted walked between them, since she was the oldest, and big enough to walk. They began walking....And after what felt like hours, once the dawn had come and gone, and the sun had started to set again, Tux finally broke the silence, putting Ice down for a minute. "We're here."
Sadie put down Spring and licked her kit's cheek, her eyes filled with pain. "Are you sure Legend Clan will accept them?"
"Positive."
All three of their kits, Spotted, Spring, and Winter, huddled together below their parents, looking up at them with big, terrified eyes.
"Goodbye, my loves. We'll miss you." Sadie said softly. Then she and Tux turned, and started walking away, leaving their kits behind.
"Mama!" Spotted called.
"Daddy!" Winter called.
Sadie and Tux heard their kit's cries for them grow fainter as the walked farther away. Sadie felt her eyes stinging, and she didn't notice Tux was doing the same, but she has a good cry, as she left behind her kits, and half of her heart.
