DISCLAIMER:
I am definitely not the best artist on CS, however, I do think I have some useful tips that you and myself should try out more often. In addition, this is a Shepard body, anatomy changes GREATLY depending on the canine being drawn.
Notes:
- make sure the tail connects to the spine, not the leg
- I like to label the ground as to keep all my limbs the same length
- Make sure all body parts are proportionate (label the ground/take a step back to see what needs to be altered)
- I like to make a mix of fluff and smooth lines, fluff is good, but too much is VERY distracting
- Where the head and neck connects, it usually bends towards the skeleton, not away
- Try to make your ears the same shape, unless for character design reasons
- Try not to make paws flat, the toes are round on dogs
- The amount of toes you see is dependent on how the foot is positioned, unless draw as a full view, only 2/3 toes show be visible, leaning towards maybe 1/2 for the back feet
- For wolves (not all canines) there is less of a bend from the chest to waist, it is usually far straighter and fluffier than what is shown
- Try and follow the coffin rule (i.e. your drawing, unless purely for ref should never be just standing, try to give movement/emotion), it makes the drawing come to life I find
Drawing Tools
- Pencil, width 3, smoothness 80%
- Eraser
Recommended Drawing Strategies
- Peanut Strategy (Make 2 circles and connecting them w/ curved lines) for the body
- Simple Sketching
- Having a high smoothness setting (Just in general helps me I find)
I hope this helped!
