This is Dendrobates auratus or in other words the green and black Poison Dart Frog. I decided that I wanted to draw something exotic, and immediately I thought Poison Dart Frog. These creatures are in fact poisonous to the touch, which is why they are called "Poison" Dart Frog. The reason why poison dart frogs are such vibrant colors is that animals that would normally eat frogs know that they are indeed poisonous. This is called warning coloration. Now some animals are brightly colored but not poisonous. Well they are trying to trick their enemies into thinking that they are poisonous. Now you know about Poison Dart Frogs. Who knew Chicken Smoothie could be so educational?

Poison Dart frogs are also knows as Poison Arrow frogs. They name came from the fact that the Natives in the tropical rain forests would use the poison they excreted from their skin to tip their arrows to use in tribal wars.

Poison Dart frogs are my favorite kind of frogs and they make wonderful and colorful pets. They are not poisonous in captivity do to the fact they are not able to eat specific foods that cause them to be poisonous.
