Imagine...people passing your cage, staring right past you because you're not a puppy anymore. Imagine it. Eventually, you feel like you might just be a part of the stone walls around you.

I'm glad I'm listening to a really happy song to keep my spirits up otherwise I would've cried with I read this. The fact that most people ignore older pets in a pound is so sad to me omg.

Thank you so much for your heartfelt response! I'm always especially saddened by how many animals get put to sleep just because they're not young and flawlessly adorable anymore. I'm surprised that this is so moving! I was really trying to strike a chord here. <3

Dang, that's saddening. Not enough to make me shed a tear, but very understandable. ;-;
Makes me think of both CS and irl pound animals.
Nobody wants an "old" dog or "ugly" cat...people just go to breeders for kittens and puppies.
And when they grow old, people leave them at a pound...

On Chicken Smoothie, not everyone wants a Common (and below) pet. Many just want the SOOPER RARE pets. Now, don't get me wrong, we all like to get rare pets. For me, I just collect them. But I also collect OMG So Common pets because me likey. >.>
But the not-so-rare pets who get dumped at the Pound rarely ever come back out, due to people searching only for the "desirable" pets.

Man, now I just realized how similar both Pounds are... ):

You have a really great point! We produce so many kittens and puppies, when the animals who are already grown up aren't getting any love.

This is really sad. I almost cried. This honestly describes what it's like to be a shelter pet, the risk of not knowing if someone's going to adopt you, because if they don't, you'll get put to sleep. My friend has a really old dog (He's 12 years old) and he's probably the most lovable thing ever, and it's really sad to see people don't like older dogs, just because puppies are "cuter". Same goes with cats.
