Their profession: Veterinarian
Why have they chosen it? Ollie has always loved animals and as a pup, asked his parents what kinds of jobs involved pets. He was told that veternarians helped animals and decided then and there that he was to be a veternarian. Despite being told that it wouldn't always be pretty and easy, he was determined. He's now been in the profession for almost a decade and loves it because he loves watching the gratitude on others when he helps with their sick or injured pets.
Personality: Ollie is often calm, and it is difficult to upset him. He is caring to others, especially pets, and is dedicated to whatever task he puts his mind to. In addition, he is serious and not prone to jokes, partially due to the seriousness of his job. However, he derives satisfaction from knowing that he has helped yet another patient and always looks forward to his next day at work.
Short Story: Ollie sat at his desk, wondering when the next patient would come in. He was bored as the day was going slowly. He snapped to full alterness when a small face peeked through the door. "Come in," he said cheerfully. The door opened fully and a small Rainbow Paint Wolf stepped through. In her hands, she held two infant fire-lizards.
"I don't know what to do!" she said, brow furrowed in worry. "Their skin is cracking and I just don't know what to do!"
Ollie sighed. What idiot decided to give their child a fire-lizard and not even look up how to care for it? Let alone two! "Can I see them?" he asked. The girl held out her arms, careful not to drop the sleeping pair. His eyes widened even further when he saw that it was a gold/bronze pair. "What are their names?" he asked, accepting the pair.
"Lady and Lore," said the girl, sniffling. "I don't want 'em to die. I heard that if they go between with cracked skin, they can die!"
"Yes, that's true," said Ollie carefully, trying not to upset the girl further, "but all you have to do is rub a bit of oil onto their skin every day, and they'll be perfectly okay!" It was so elementary, that he resisted the urge to shake his head. He wasn't sure if it would be in disgust or amusement.
"Oil? What kind of oil?" asked the girl, much happier all of a sudden.
"Any, really. Just not cooking oil." Cooking oil would be dangerous, considering fire-lizards could breathe fire. "I have some here." Ollie stood up and opened a drawer, getting out his bottle of cream that was often used for fire-lizard skin. "Watch." He put the fire-lizards down and showed the girl precisely how to rub the cream in. Some owners were meticulous, others forgot to watch out for problem spots such as the insides of the legs and wings. The little Rainbow Paint Wolf watched carefully, occasionally making a sound as she absorbed the lesson. Finally, it was done and she left, thanking him for helping her. Ollie cracked a grin. He was sure that despite her parents' inattention to caring for such delicate creatures, the little girl would have no problems caring for multiple 'lizards. She was bound to Impress more than one, after all, with a gold/bronze pair like hers. He just hoped that she would remember to put some oil onto their skin. And feed them. He'd heard that feeding them was a nightmare. That was why he'd never tried his luck.
Ollie sat back down in his chair, spinning it around. This was the most fun he'd had all day. But though his job was occasionally boring, it always gave him satisfaction, and would continue to do so for years to come.
