Nimo was orphaned at a very young age, and rescued by a group of devoted animal loving humans shortly after. He has no memory of his biological family or where he came from. Instead, he has Klondike.
Upon arriving at the farm which Nimo now calls home, he was but a small and fragile creature, and was terrified of everything - his own shadow sent him running. All the new sounds and scents overwhelmed his poor soul. In his bout of stress and disorientation he refused to eat, to drink, to stand, to even open his eyes at times. To the humans, it seemed he would not survive.
That's when Klondike appeared. A pudgy grey tom cat that walked with a waddle and always seemed hobbled on his back right paw when he sat for too long. At first it was yet another horrifying new experience for Nimo. The long teeth and piercing green eyes in the fluffed up face of the feline was almost too much to bare. But the cat didn't seem to notice Nimo's fear. Or if he did, he didn't care. The lumbering tom flopped down in Nimo's little basket, curled his fluffy tail around the tiny babes side, and began purring to his hearts content. Nimo shook, frozen in fear. But after a few minutes, the dik-dik calmed. His heart beat slowed. His eyes peaked open. And astonishingly, he even made the bold decision to curl into the cats side even closer. The low rumble of the cats pur seemed to sooth Nimo's soul almost instantly. Suddenly, the world wasn't such a scary place.
Within a matter of a few days both critters were up and romping about like old friends. Nimo ate his meals joyfully and spent every night curled up next to the soft fluffy fur ball. Klondike seemed pleased to have the quiet little fawn with him as well. Well, as much as a cat could be pleased about anything that is. Regardless, the two spent every possible moment glued to each others sides, and Nimo grew up happily through the years with his hobbling old friend. Without his companionship, Nimo knows in his heart he would likely not be alive today - and for that he owes the simple tom cat everything.
