Meraki (Pronounced, "Meh - rah - key" - plural and singular - like Sheep) are a species of flightless dragons with an avid love for hats and everything about hats, which they make out of gossamer.
It is an extremely rare occurrence to see a Meraki without a hat.

How they got their hat; Chase got his hat after becoming an honorary police dragon. He was just out minding his own business one day when suddenly in the distance he started to hear a commotion. As he approached the source of the noise he could see that there was a man stealing a woman's purse! He was in pursuit in no time chasing the man as fast as he could. By the time the police arrived Chase had apprehended the criminal and was sat on his back the ladies purse in his jaws. The cops were stunned and made Chase their honorary police dog... I mean, Dragon. And so that is how he got his hat.

Optional extra; Chase is allergic to feathers, always has been. It is thought he has this trait from his great grandfather. His feather allergy can sometimes make chasing down baddies a little problematic as sniffing through city streets you are bound to come across multiple pigeon feathers, and out in the country pheasant or chicken feathers. He still does his job regardless and loves nothing more than his job.

(Yes, I did base this off of Chase from paw patrol, and yes I am way to old to be watching paw patrol but that's not the point ;3)
