altean jackals are a species of wild canine found on the planet altea.
They are thin, and resemble an earth jackal in general build but are
much larger, reaching the average person's shoulder. Usually found
in small packs - parents and cubs, with yearlings or a grandparent -
altean jackals build their dens where the meadows and forests meet,
and prey mostly on small rodents or birds.

Sorry for poofing for a bit! I was busy with a school musical, and because of that we have a special kid here!
This Jackal is based on Sally Fair from "The Nightmare Before Christmas"! Which, coincidentally, is the musical I was performing in (not as Sally but, ya know)

Themed designs will be rare from me, because I prefer to be original.But on top of that, this jackal's "tattoos" aren't the usual style either.

This contest will be to give this Jackal face/back leg designs. You can base these off of Sally, or just what you think matches what's there already! Some rules though;
-- don't flat out copy any other designs
-- don't do more than the areas circled
-- don't color directly over this image / trace it
-- try not to use more than 3 new colors

I hope you don't mind that I have a question?

If we're not supposed to copy the Jackal's image and color over it, what would you recommend for displaying a design? I have the feeling that no one has entered because they're not sure what to do, if not that.

I, for one, am not artistically talented when it comes to drawing animals and objects that come down to being somewhat anatomically correct, but I LOVE doodling markings and such. So, I can't really... draw my own full blown art of it to display extra marking designs. And, even if I could, drawing one's own art doesn't give an exact placement for how it would appear on the official image.

All that said, I REALLY want to enter, and I have the designs in mind, I just don't know how I should go about this.

you could just draw a headshot, or draw a back leg, and make your design on that.
i just dont want people coloring over this image, or tracing it, or redrawing it exactly, because thats art theft and even if their anatomy i s"bad" - so long as it's genuinely their work, and the design is what im judging on, artistic skill doesnt matter much!

i personally didnt see what was hard to understand about not copying my work exactly to make your own design, so thanks for bringing it up! But you're only designing the areas specified, not the entire body ;0

kinda like "design the items" contests. most dont allow you to draw right over the adoption ref, but you can draw the character wearing them in another pose
