aeris' name: aspen
how aspen lost their tail: thunder crackled in the background, causing aspen to burrow deeper into his bedsheets. he whimpered lightly, watching the lightning paint his wall white, followed by a deafening boom. the aeris closed his eyes, clenching his teeth and gripping the bedsheets in terror. through the hard rain tapping on his window, he heard a small squeal, loud enough to get his attention. aspen blinked and cautiously rose from his large pile of pillows and covers that he'd built to protect him from the storm, and made his way to his window. he looked outside and saw a small ferret, huddled underneath a few leaves next to a bump that an ant could call a cliff. he felt his tense muscles relax. i can't leave it out there- it'll die, if i dont do something! but.. what if i was electrocuted? what if i had to go to the hospital and have all of those needles put into me? he began to argue with himself until he settled with one dangerous option. no. it needs me. i-i'll go out there and help it, even if it means losing my life! he told himself, acting braver than he was. he grabbed a flashlight, a raincoat (that covered him completely), and a frying pan. the frying pan was to scoop up the ferret, in case it had something such as fleas, and to keep it away from him, in case it became hostile. he marched outside, his hood nearly covering his vision, with his flashlight on the brightest setting and his frying pan at his side. he raced into a bush a few feet away from the ferret, careful not to scare it any more than it already was. he gently reached out the frying pan and scooped the long noodle into the pan, holding it close enough so he could examine it. something was slowly forcing it's eye shut, it's claws were dull, and it was almost a complete noodle, it was so thin. he furrowed his brow and covered the pan with his long raincoat sleeve. he looked up to the sky questioningly and saw lightning flash right before him; it lasted too long, and the sound scared him half to death, he nearly dropped the pan. he ran as far as he could, making sure the ferret wasn't bouncing around while he did so. he paused as he realized the rain had gone down to a few patters on the leaves. he looked behind him anxiously and, sure enough, his house was nowhere to be found. tears pricked his eyes as he anxiously thought, what if i never see home again? what if i cant treat the ferret in the wilderness, and it dies right in front of me? oh no, oh no, i let my fear get in the way and now.. the aeris paused, looking up at the treetops. "i'm lost," he finished his thought out loud. he looked down and, for the first time in forever, he didn't flinch when he heard the thunder boom throughout the forest. he sat down and sighed, staring at the ferret. he noticed it's gaze, wandering off behind him in a wide-eyed trance. the aeris looked at it questioningly and quietly murmured, "what?" he glanced behind him and shrieked, clawing the pan handle. fire lit up the scene behind him, dotting the trees as the flames grew larger and larger. the rain simply wasn't strong enough to put it out, and soon, it would be a wildfire. he looked to the side, desperately wishing the fire hadn't crossed over to his side, but sure enough, it was surrounding him. aspen looked around and spotted a small gap in the flames, where the embers hadn't touched one bit of the trees. without thinking, the aeris raced through the gap and looked behind him, hoping the fire had only been in the one spot. he turned back and slammed into a tree, dropping the ferret's pan, as well as the ferret. he slumped down and cried out as a long, flaming branch landed on his tail. his rain coat burned and burned, the smell of burning fur terrifying him to death until he slowly drifted off.
when aspen woke up, he was laying in his own bed, in his own room, in his own house. he turned and saw there was no forest in front of his window, just a long, empty path with leaves entirely covering the ground. he felt strange; he felt fine and all, but something was off. he turned back to his nightstand and saw a big cage set on a low table, pushed against the wall. he peered inside and saw a small, brown ferret, cuddled up against the glass. his eyes widened as he recollected last night's events; everything was burnt down to a crisp, or at least, he assumed, since there was no forest, and he just past out during the middle of it. he shuffled out of bed and tried his hardest to lash his tail, or at least slam it against the bed (as he usually did), but, no. nothing. just a small fuzzy stump. he remembered how pained the ferret looked, and how calm it looked now. he gently smiled, despite having no tail, he still felt as warm as ever. he saved a ferret's life.
(totally sappy and terrible, i tried, i couldnt remember the original ending so.. ;_;)
