Taking the route of surprise and patients rather than brute strength and agility. For all they are good at, there is even more. Avanis have the ability to control elements. Through the small little orb at the end of some of their feathers, they are able to control an element. The element a Avani controls is decided at birth and normally is passed down through genetics. You can tell what element a Avani controls by the color of the small orb. If it is Dark blue, they can control water, if it is a faded yellow, they can control light, and so forth. Though these creatures are very hostile in the wild, they make amazing companions as well. Often enough, these creatures are captured and kept as exotic 'guard dogs' so to say.
