The background isn't terrible! I think if it was any busier then it would distract from the object itself!
It maybe jus needs a little more definition where the colours mix to make it look more like a shelf for the owl to sit on!
Overall a beautiful piece! I wish I could draw like you!

GORGEOUS!! Feature this beatiful owl!
Since the bg is blurry it fits great, the only thing I think of is how the shadow falls from the figure, currently it makes the bg look a little flat instead of being a Wall and a shelf in Two different dimensions! Here the shade could have an angle from the shelf to the wall to make the owl pop out ^^
No matter what It's still glorious :3
