Name: Weaving Magic with Words // Runa (Meaning: Secret Lore)
Gender: Mare
Eye Color: Midnight Depths [Grey, Blue, Purple]
Coat Color: Silver Blue Roan with Minimal Brindle
Personality: Runa is quiet. Very quiet. This sometimes leads other horses to think that she is shy, or maybe not that smart, but they couldn't be more wrong. Runa is clever as can be, and has more fire and spunk in her than anyone might imagine. She is a storyteller. She loves to weave tales of ancient times and places. Tales she shares only with her siblings, and one special friend.
Runa likes spending time with her siblings, but often she will go off alone, usually into the hill country. There she loves to hear the birds sing and the brook babbling on. She says the hills have a music all their own, if you are only patient and mindful enough to hear it. While most horses don't understand her deep connection with the hills where she was born, Runa knows her brother and sister do.
Runa tends to be in another world most of the time. Usually one of her own making. While she tells stories of magic and adventure, many of them naturally contain some amount of romance, but in truth, Runa could easily do without it and adds it only to please her audience. She believes in love like anyone else, but she also believes there is no love like in the story books, and she isn't sure if she could like being in love as much as she likes telling stories of being in love. It is a subject that she still hasn't settled, though her brother has his opinions and tries to help her 'see the light', as he says.
Relationship with Sibling 1: Runa is close to both of her siblings, but in different ways. While she loves her brother, she knows there are some things that she cannot share with him that her sister will better understand. Runa is quiet, keeping her thoughts and dreams mostly to herself, but she knows she can share them with her sister without fear of being mocked or teased. Runa is strong, but depends on her sister, and brother, more than anyone realizes. She is fiercely protective of her sister and has never envied her for her beauty, or anything else. She feels like her sister accepts her and makes her a better mare. She knows that her sister will not hesitate to tell her if she is making a mistake, and Runa also knows that she is free to do the same in return. Runa would trust her sister, not only with her secrets, but with her life. Runa (and of course her brother) are really the only ones who ever see their sister's mischievous, playful side. Runa admires her sister and looks up to her.
This sister is sort of like the middle foal, the mediator. She seems to posses elements of both of her siblings and while they are all strong together, she is like the middle piece of the puzzle, the one keeping the other two connected.
Relationship with Sibling 2: Runa's brother is a bit of a goof at times, often clashing with Runa's more serious nature, but deep down she loves him for it. Ever since they were foals he has particularly enjoyed her stories and she takes great pleasure in telling them to him. While he is generally laid back around her and a tease, sometimes he is surprisingly aggressive in protecting her. (Of course, most of the time she doesn't actually need protecting, but she lets him believe she does). He calls her Ru, a nickname she never liked and won't let anyone else use. He mostly does it when she is grumpy and he is trying to get her to lighten up. He pranks her sometimes, and it drives her crazy. But she admires his ability to keep others laughing.
Runa has less in common with her brother than she does with her sister, but that often serves to strengthen their relationship, rather than weaken it. Sometimes she even tries to tease and prank him back, thought it often backfires. The one thing Runa really loves about her brother is that he likes to go on nature walks with her. It is one of the few times he is serious! He genuinely enjoys it and doesn't just do it to humor her. Runa knows this because when he is faking it his left ear twitches slightly and his gaze travels to the upper right. Both are stubborn and will rarely give in to the other.
Halter Design:Indigo with silver stars/stripes and/or tassels.
Extra:Runa is closer to her siblings than anyone. They are her best friends and no one seems to come close, well, except one horse . . .
Azmer. Runa has been friends with Azmer since she was a foal. He was almost a year older than her and treated her like a younger sister. A realist Azmer was drawn to Runa because of her fantasy worlds and her story telling. She didn't know it at the time, but when she started telling her siblings stories every evening he would hide nearby and listen.
When she did find out she was angry at first, but when she realized how much he had liked her stories she forgave him and invited him to come and listen with her siblings.
Azmer became like one of the family, though he was always closest to Runa.
The two of them went for walks together sometimes. Generally Runa did all the talking and Azmer just listened, sometimes smiling or chuckling at something she said.
Now, while Runa is close to her siblings, they don’t get along all the time of course, and when she was frustrated she got used to going to Azmer to talk about it. He would listen and gently point out her own faults, or help her figure out how to solve the problem.
Runa was sure things would never change. But they did.
One day Azmer came to see Runa with some news that took her completely by surprise. He was a leader.
He had become the leader of his herd and had new responsibilities.
At first Runa couldn’t have been more pleased. Then Azmer became busy. So busy he rarely stopped by to hear her stories anymore and hardly had time to even say hi.
Runa became almost jealous.
Azmer didn’t mean to ignore her, but he had very little choice having to deal with the problems of the herd constantly. Even the most minor things.
Until he wasn’t around as much Runa hadn’t realized how much she had missed him. But when he did come around she let her hurt guide her and she acted cold toward him.
Azmer went home hurt and dejected.
He didn’t come by again and Runa felt bad.
Soon new came through the grapevine that Azmer was spending lots of time with his new friend, Cloud.
Runa didn’t admit it, but she was jealous. She had been stubborn and silly and now it seemed she was paying. She had maybe lost his friendship forever.
Her brother and sister tried to comfort her, but even that didn’t help. Runa became mopey and stopped telling her stories.
About a month later Azmer came back to visit Runa’s herd.
Runa was so mortified by her own behavior she was afraid to approach Azmer to ask for his forgiveness.
But as it turned out, Azmer approached her instead.
At first Runa said very little and things were awkward.
Azmer told her how his herd was doing and she offered a few tidbits of news from her herd.
Finally she couldn’t take it anymore and blurted out her apology. “I was so silly, and foolish, and mean!” She said, looking down at her hooves. “I was such a foal,” she muttered. “And now you have a new friend and I have ruined our friendship with my silliness.”
Azmer was quiet for a moment, then he gently pressed his forehead against hers and said, “I was hurt, I won’t deny it. But I never stopped loving my very special friend, and as far as you being a foal, it took a lot of courage to admit your own faults just now, and I admire you more for it. I was partially to blame as well, ignoring you the way I did.”
Runa shook her head slightly. “No. You have responsibilities now, I was just to selfish to realize that you were only doing what you had to.I guess that this jsut proves I have my share of faults.” She looked up and her silvery blue eyes met his clear ones.
“Can you forgive me? Can we be friends again?”
Azmer nodded, “Of course I will forgive you and we can be friends. Now and always.”
Runa had nickered softly, then the two friends shared a warm embrace, standing quietly with their necks around each other.
