here's the species concept.

Deer antlers
Lemur tail-ish
Feline torso
Croc spikey stuff
Eagle talons
Canine hind
add a pinch of salt and it's complete!

They came to us in our dreams.
Celestial beings not of this world, brimming with the stuff humankind called 'magic'
In fact, their innocence was so pure it was literally pouring out of them, from their tails,
from their legs. Actually that's pretty much where the magic stuff came out from.
Some say that if you look carefully at the mist o' magic, you see illusions. Some call this
a blessing, and some call it the end.
We called these the 'guardians'.
Don't ask me why I'm just your grandma
Some, however, are not as divine.
This kind came to us in our nightmares. Magic so powerful, it could strip a whole galaxy of its freedom.
They were not to be messed with. A mere look into their mist could show a human a fate worse than death.
Little is known about these unholy creatures.
We called these the 'dark ones'.
