x If Shred Dragons are not actually dragons, where did their name come from?
Shred Dragons were, for many years, known of only by the locals of small mountain villages. The name they were largely recognized by has been translated into English, and its meaning is almost identical to the word "dragon".
The villagers acknowledged Shred Dragons to be powerful deities, and left sacrifices of food to them out of fear. This drew the creatures closer, and several began to claim territory around the villages. They were intelligent enough not to harm their own villagers, who helped to sustain them during rough times, but protected the area against neighboring tribes and rival Shred Dragons. Some of the Dragons even shared a bond with a specific villager, but these bonds were more of a friendship than an ownership. They developed a symbiotic relationship with humans.
Scientists believe that SDs have forms of language, art, and arithmetic- much like we do. It's likely that they learned and grew as a species alongside the humans they watched over.
