✪ Tignix Adopts Genetics Guide Part 7- The 'Wm' Gene ✪
This gene codes for white markings, which spread from the paws upwards depending on the alleles present and the environmental conditions in the mother's womb.
✪ Alleles and Phenotypes ✪
There are two alleles for the 'Wm' gene:
'Wm-' the is the dominant allele. In its homozygous form it codes for 'maximum white', including grades 5-8. In its heterozygous for it codes for 'minimum white', including grades 1-4.
'wm-' this is the recessive allele.
✪ Allele combinations ✪
'Wm/Wm'- 'maximum white' occurs, including grades 5, 6, 7 and 8
'Wm/wm'- 'minimum white' occurs, including grades 1, 2, 3 and 4
'wm/wm'- no markings present
