✪ Tignix Adopts Genetics Guide Part 3- The 'Br' gene ✪
This gene is responsible for creating bright, intense coat colours.
✪ Alleles and Phenotypes ✪
There are two different alleles:
'Br'- this is the dominant allele. In both its homozygous and heterozygous forms it codes for the 'brightening' of the base coats. Skin pigments and eye colour remains the same as with the base coat or diluted coat.
'br'- this is the recessive allele. In its homozygous form no the coat remains unaffected.
It is very important to note that when a tignix has the double dilution genotype (homozygous 'P/P', see part 2) the effect of the of 'Br' allele is masked completely and there is no phenotypic evidence for its presence.
✪ Allele combinations ✪
Br/Br- brightening present: brown -> flame | green -> grass | grey -> ocean | sandy/tan -> ginger | mint -> lime | silver -> sky
Br/br- same as above
br/br- no brightening
