Bedtime Story wrote:His favorite bedtime story is one about a lonely lantern, that his mother wrote to help him fall asleep.
It goes like this...
"Once upon a time, there was a lantern that lived in a haunted house. It was a very old house, full if spiders and ghosts and other scary things. Every so often a Kalon would wander in and get scared, and run away. The lantern was also a ghost, a dead Kalon who had died as a young boy, who had found new life as a lantern. He chose this object so he could light people's way out of the haunted house, so they wouldn't get scared."
"What about him? Was he scared?" A young Lumin asked curiously, his eyes staring up in wonder at his mother as he worried for the small lantern. "I'm getting to that." His mother assured him, continuing on with the story. "So, when the lantern went to greet the next visitor, a young teen who had visited the house as a dare, he was overjoyed to see a light in the darkness. He didn't care that it was a talking lantern, it was good enough for him. He followed the lantern through the house, and when he did the lantern noticed that he was getting brighter and brighter as he led the Kalon through the house.
See, none of the ghosts were mean. They didn't want to possess or haunt anyone, they just wanted someone to have fun with and pull harmless pranks on. The other ghosts who possessed various objects told the new young ghost to help him pull a prank on a Kalon, one that they couldn't pull alone. The lantern agreed, and that was what he was doing with this Kalon." Lumin's mother explained. "Oooh." Lumin said, understanding. "But it wasn't a mean prank, right?" He asked. "No no," His mother assured him. "At least, the ghosts didn't see it that way. Anyways, the lantern led the way into a grand ball room. The curtains were made of velvet, and tapestries were draped on every wall. Chandeliers glittered as the faint light from the candles cast through them, and all the wood was a beautiful mahogany. The Kalon's face lit up at the scene, smiling brightly.
The lantern was overjoyed, and continued to flicker it's light and give the ghosts the signal. All the ghosts started moving and dancing and making noise, scaring the kalon. The Kalon ran away from the ghosts, never to be seen again. This made the ghosts very sad. They gave up on having fun, going back to their places. A while passed, and the lantern noticed that he was getting dimmer by the day. His flame was dying out. He asked the other, older ghosts what was happening and they explained the reason why there were no ghosts that were lanterns or candles. It was because to be a candle or a lantern you needed to be with Kalons and interact with them to keep the flame lit and keep the ghost in the living world, and nobody was able to in the past. But the lantern was determined to stay lit. He went on a quest out of the mansion to find Kalons.
He ran out to the village, but every Kalon that he saw was afraid of the floating lantern. All except for one. One young Kalon approached the lantern, asking why he floated and talked. The lantern explained his story to the Kalon, expecting him to run away. But he didn't. The Kalon found his story amazing, and said that he could come to the mansion. He liked horror and scary things, and he wanted to be scared, not like the other Kalons. The lantern was overjoyed! Finally, someone who would come! The lantern ran back to the mansion, grinning all the way through. He told the ghosts what he had found, and that they could finally scare someone! They set up flights and scares everywhere they could, leaving the lantern to go back and get the Kalon.
When the lantern got the Kalon and led him to the mansion, the Kalon was extremely happy. He jumped and screamed at every ghost, but after each one he smiled and laughed. He said that it was amazing! He loved it so much, that he came to the mansion every day after that. The lantern and the Kalon became friends, and the Kalon started bringing all his friends to the mansion. One day, the lantern's friend died, and the lantern grieved. One day after, a new lantern arrived to the mansion. It was the lantern's friend! After that, more and more of the lantern's friends arrived at the mansion, and the ghosts could finally have friends.
The end.
Lumin's mother looked down at Lumin, smiling. Lumin was sound asleep, sucking his paw. She gave him a kiss on the forehead before quietly padding out of the room and closing the door behind her.
The story was made to show Lumin that even if he wasn't doing what most did, he could still do what he needed to, and what he loved.
