The cartoony-ness may have to do with the fact that if I try anything too realistic my art turns into a terrifying mush of horrendous colored blobs that look like they're in pain just by living. So I stick to cartoony. Plus it's much more fun.
And I do try to create lots of lore about them! If there's ever anything you want to know about my chars don't be afraid to ask. (;
