The dodge and burn tools in the top left box are the easiest ways to shade and highlight areas. "Dodge" highlights areas, and "Burn" shades them. If you didn't use them in this drawing, I hope it helps. It really helped me when I found out. Also, this is cute, so keep up the great work! :D
