        Owner: ~Emmylou
Show name: Bluu Storm at Sea
        Barn name: Bluu
        Height: 16 hh
        gender: Stallion
        Genotype: Unknown

I pulled into the nice stables where my new stallion was said to be. I bought him a few days ago, and this will be my first time seeing him. If he is well-behaved, I just might, might be able to tack him up and ride him today as well as meeting him. If he is as wild as I think he will be, then I might just be able to give him a treat of two. The stable was clearly nice, it had paved floors, polished wood, and acres of pasture for the horses to run in. Board was probably expensive as well, but I will find a way to pay for it.
Since it was six o'clock in the morning, not a lot of horses where already turned out. A few of them where in one of the big pastures, but the rest of them were blocked off and empty. By the looks of them, they could be white wood fences, or probably metal. Let's hope they are strong, so my new stallion won't break anything. You could hear the horses eating their morning grain though, and only a few had finished. I hesitantly opened the door of my car and walked into the nice stables, looking for my new horse. He was described to be a blue roan stallion with snowcap and badger face markings. I turned a bend around the feed room, and there he was. He held his head high, but was clearly uncomfortable in the cross ties. He was pacing back and forth and side to side, and no one was there to comfort him. "Woah, buddy" I said, firmly hold the cross ties attached to his halter. He clearly did like this, as he tried his best to bite my hand in the cross ties. I let go, letting him pace a bit, trying to figure something out, something to calm him down. I stroked his nose, high enough so he could dare bite me. His pacing became slower, and he started to breathe heavily, and I am almost positive that he didn't trust me just yet. I took a few treats out of my pocket, and offered them to the wild stallion, still stroking his soft nose. I could feel his breath on my hand and he hesitantly took one treat out of my hand. When he finished with that one treat, he ate another one, and another, till he was sniffing my pockets for more. When I was done feeding him all of my treats (which I intended to last my entire visit) , I stepped back. I felt like he trusted me a bit now, he stopped pacing, but you still did see the whites in his eyes. Finally a man walked out of the big feed room and stopped in between me and the stallion. "You're the one who bought him, right?" He says, in his croaky, rough voice. You could almost hear how tired he was, he must be dying to get out of here and maybe continue with his day.
"Yes," I say, almost too confident, walking next to the dark blue roan stallion, still holding his head higher than ever.
The man turned around to face me, looking me in the eyes. "Well I have a long day ahead of me, so I need to go. He was named Bluu Storm at Sea, and he was called Bluu for short. I don't care if you change it, do whatever you would like with him," The man paused and waited a second before adding " I wouldn't dare tack him up and ride him if I where you. You will defiantly end up on the ground," he turned and walked out, leaving a terrible silence behind, broken by a shrill whinny from the stallion. He threw his head, and started pacing once more. I clipped a lead rope onto his halter, and undid the cross ties. I led him out to one of the smaller turnout fields, and walked in. Closing the gate behind me, Bluu tugged of the lead rope, anxious to run. I took of his halter and at that moment he bolted, spraying loose dust in my face. I jumped in between the wooden gate and made my way out of the turnout field. He was already on the other side of the field, whinnying and tossing his head from side to side. He stayed silent as he watched his old owner pull out of the barn, and drove behind the thick forest. Bluu stomped his foot and started to trot over to me, but stopped a few feet in front of me. Slowly, he walked over, and gave me a sniff, simply less nervous and jumpy then he was before.
I slowly reached my daring hand to stroke his nose, but in return I got a bite, and soon after, when he realized what was coming, Bluu galloped away, his thundering feet racing across the small pasture, and he raised his head almost taking in the fact that he won't be here for long.
When it seemed like he was calm, and he couldn't run any more, I went back in the meadow to grab him and put in his new stall. I walked over to him, slid the halter over his proud and strong head. I lead him back in the stables, and into the indoor arena where a temporary stall sat. I hoped that he wouldn't break it, that would probably be too expensive to fix.
I opened the door, walked in with Bluu, and slid his halter off. I closed the door, and fed him some sweet feed, since the old man who I think was his old owner didn't tell me what to feed him. Once I decided he was comfortable in his new home, I walked down the aisle way of the stables and back into my car. I will soon come back later today to see how he got along with other horses, and maybe I can summon the bravery to ride him.

The time was around noon when I pulled my small grey car into the stables where I have once been before, earlier in the morning. I stepped out of the car in think riding breeches, finally realizing I made a huge mistake. It was extremely hot and humid outside, and I doubt I would be able to ride that wild stallion that bit me plenty of times in the morning. He was turned out already by barn staff, but he was in the smaller pasture alone. Whinnying and tossing his head, he ran around the pasture in circles, with his soft, smooth gate. He stopped in the blink of an eye and stood proud and tall, with the sun glaring behind him. His whinny split the air and echoed through the thick forest and talk mountains that surrounded the stables. Once he realized I was here, staring in awe at the sight, he trotted over and lifted his head over the fence.
"Hey Bluu," I said in a soft, gentle voice to the wild horse. He responded with a nicker, and stomped his foot, almost insisting for a treat. I put a treat in the palm of my hand and lifted it up to his mouth. This time he didn't hesitate to take it right out of my hand.
"Is that your stallion?" a young woman asked, looking at my horse from behind me. She appeared to be in her early 20's, she had a slim build, and bright red hair that was clearly died. She wasn't focused on me, but Bluu, whose long mane was flowing up in the wind, and his eyes focused, almost staring at us with his ears perked.
I turned around to face her, and said "Well yes, you see I-"
"He is gorgeous. By the way I am Alana" The girl said, still focusing all of her attention on the stallion, who was standing over both of us.
"and I am Emmylou. Pleased to meet you," I said back to her as Bluu trotted away.
"Do you mind if I take a few horses into your horses pasture? I think they would get along well, and besides, horses are herd animals so I think he needs a few friends,"
"Ok, whatever you think would be best for him,"

        • • •

A few minutes later, Alana was leading two horses over to the gate, close to where I was standing. One was another stallion, who seemed to have a lower temperament then Bluu. He was a bay, and was clearly used for breeding, since was obviously well-bred. The other was an old flea-bitten gray gelding, who had a droopy back and long neck, which was very unappealing. Tears came down from one of his eyes, showing that he was blind in that eye. He might be a new rescue, or just a retired horse that needs a home.
"Will you hold Rascal here?" Alana asked, handing me the lead rope of the old sickly horse.
"Sure," I respond, taking the lead rope. Rascal? What a name for a very old horse like this!
"So stallions can live together, but they have to get along and have the right temperament. Same goes with geldings," she says, giving Rascal a look. " I think they will get along together, since Rascal and R.C are already friends. We will have to watch them just to make sure. We don't want them getting into fights."
I politely nodded as Alana led R.C into the field with Bluu. I handed her Rascal, and she then let him out into the field as well. R.C and Rascal stuck together, grazing on the fresh green grass, their pelts almost touching. Bluu watched them, with his ears perked. It was a long time before he lowered his head, almost touching the ground and started to trot over to where the two horses where grazing. He stopped, his head still low. Rascal or R.C didn't seem to care much, until Bluu decided to nip at him. The two horses squealed and trotted away, while Bluu decided to graze in that spot.
"That's not good at all," Alana mutters, climbing through the fence with R.C's halter. She quickly slips it over his head and then trots away with him. Rascal soon followed, and she led both of them out of the field that now held only Bluu.
Rascal stood there, doing nothing but stare at me. "Well what are you waiting for, put Rascal's halter on before he runs away!"
I walked to his side and then put the halter on over his ears. He didn't move a muscle untill Alana took his lead rope and led them into the field where they where before. She returns with two gelings, one was sorrel and young, and the other was dun and old. Again, she had me hold the old horse while she put the valuable one in first.
The sorrel one, named Charm, trotted right up to Bluu and gave him a snorted, followed by a nuzzle. Bluu playfully nipped at him, and the started to keep their distance, but it wasn't too far. He grazed with big mouthfuls of grass when Alana spoke.
"That good, I think we will be able to keep each other together from now on," Alana muttered to herself. "Hand me Eagle now,"
I handed her the colorful lead rope to the dun gelding, who obediently followed into the field. He kept to himself for a while, until Charm came to join him. The two geldings grazed together for a while until Bluu came closer and started eating.
'I think they will be good friends, what about you?" Alana asks.
        "I think so too,"

        • • •

The three horses where fine together for the rest of the day. Ålana and I heard no more whinnies from the big stallion, or any squeals from the two geldings. I didn't get to ride him today, but maybe tomorrow on a relaxing trail ride.

A small grey call pulled into the stables, for the third time in this same day. It was almost sunset, but I was pretty sure that I will have time to lead Bluu on a trail. I decided to lead him, and hope that he will be ok to ride sometime soon. Maybe I could show him, like I once did with my old horse, before he passed away. I brought my old halter and lead rope, of course after they were washed. They where a light aqua blue, patterned with trial markings in black. It was a bit lighter because of the sun, but it will do for now. I walked into the small pasture. He was grazing, tearing up mouthfuls of grass in between Charm and Eagle. I walked close to him, clucking, and he trotted over with his ears perked, almost saying "Oh hi! Your here again!"
I slipped the halter over his head, and clipped it securely over his cheekbone. I adjusted it to fit him, and he sat patiently. I felt like he was being very well-behaved, almost to well-behaved. I led him out of the pasture, and looked for Alana in the barn, still leading Bluu.
"Alana?" I called, without being too loud around the horses.
"Yes?" I heard a voice in the feed room. I quickly clipped Bluu to the cross ties, leaving the now-gentle stallion behind. I walked into the large feed room, scattered with empty feed rooms, different oils and grains marked in permanent marker with quick and sloppy writing. Alana was quickly scooping different feeds into a single bucket, almost filling it to the brim. She walked to the other side of the feed room with the bucket and scooped some different medication into the bucket. She bent down to put the bucket at the door way, and quickly stood back up with a sigh, and sweeping her red sidebang away from her face, one hand holding her hip. "Can I help you?"
"Yea I was wondering where the trails where,"
"Oh sure! Bring Bluu," Alana said, quickly walking out of the feed room and out the doorway of the stables. I followed, unclipping Bluu form the cross ties. We walked until we reached the last of the paddocks, and then she opens a gate. "Here's the trail. Try to not to take any turns and you will be back here by sunset,"
"Thanks," I say with a smile, leading Bluu in the gate.
"Oh, and here," Alana says, taking a flashlight out of her back pocket and smoothly tossing it over to me "Take this just in case,"
I awkwardly catch it with leap rope in hand, but it fell to the ground, and I bent to pick it up, accidentally dropping the lead rope doing so. I popped back up, terrified how Bluu would react. However, there he stood, looking at me almost saying, "You thought I would run away, now didn't you,".
I picked up the lead rope, and said goodbye to Alana as I walked down the trail, and shoved the flashlight in the back pocket of my jean shorts. The tree thickened as we walked, leading to this huge clearing. The grass seemed like it was recently cut, and there was only tall grass around a tree in the middle. There was a large tree stump around the edge, and that was it. I had a moment of pure genius, or rather stupidity, when I clipped the lead rope to the side of the halter, and threw the other end over. I tied the other side to the side of the halter, making a make-shift bit-less bridle. I led him over to the tree stump, and climbed on the stump, using it as a mounting block. I pushed myself on top of him, and as soon as I landed she shot his head up. "Easy boy, easy," I whispered to him, patting his neck. I took the flashlight that I was sitting in, and tossed it by the stump. "I've never really ridden a horse with shorts on," I muttered jokingly to myself as I led to horse around the edge of the trees, I walked him around once, but I could tell Bluu was ready to run. He held his head up high, taking small paces and steps. "Okay boy, let's go," I said with a cluck.
And that's when he bolted. He shot away with incredible speed. I was now holding around his neck for dear life as Bluu's mane was flowing in the wind -- and my face.
I finally got used to the speed, and sat myself up, holding the lead rope or, um, my "new" bridle, and Bluu seemed to like that a bit more, because he when faster than before. I bumped up and down as he turned the bend of the clearing, ready to run a bit more. He was clearly having fun running, because his ears where perked, and he willingly increased his speed.
Once we returned to the stump, instead of getting off like I should have, I leaned forward and uncoiled his halter. "I can't believe I'm this stupid," I muttered to myself, out of breath. "You ready Bluu?"
I took the halter off, with the makeshift reins, and then threw it next to the stump. He shot off once again, leaving me to grip his long mane. This time, it was much more comfortable, knowing how he turn the round comers of the clearing. When we reached the the stump once again, I dismounted and grabbed the halter on the ground, and slipped it back over his dark head. I clipped the band over his cheekbone, and grabbed the flashlight from the ground, making sure nothing was left here exept the memory. The sun was just sinking below the horizon, leaving orangeish and pinkish colors behind. "Come on buddy," I muttered to him as we left the clearing, and started to walk down the dark trail, promising to lead us back to the shelter of the barn.
