Kleeare (klee-are) are a species of nocturnal equine found on the island of Nocte. Most of the predators on the island are diurnal, hunting during the day and sleeping at night. In order to avoid the predators, Kleeare have evolved to do just the opposite, sleep during the day and be active at night. Due to this, Kleeare have whiskers and large ears to help them navigate in the dark. Though their most notable feature is their bioluminescent spots, made of bioluminescent cells and hollow, pigmentless hairs. They use these spots for communication, similar to a firefly.

Uh oh! Looks like this Kleeare has some vision problems; its irises are a strange, stormy grey color. Our vet hasn't had a chance to check her out completely, so tell me what's wrong with its vision and how severe it is. Most creative and informative answer wins!

NOTE: This Kleeare's eyes were once green, like its bioluminescence. The started deteriorating as the Kleeare aged. This is specific to the Kleeare and grey eyes will not pass on to foals. They may, though, have vision problems at the discretion of the owner.

What's wrong with his/her vision?: London has developed an Ocular Disease, which is common in horses. This is causing his eyes to become cloudy and permanently change color. No one is sure exactly why his eyes have changed from a green to grey, some believe that his eyes have begun to lose their pigment and could eventually go from grey to white. Upon further examination it can be determined that London has begun to develop cataracts, which will only worsen causing his vision to fail further.

What's wrong with his/her vision?: Taranis suffers from moon Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU), also known as moon blindness. Not much is known about this disease, except that it is not caused by an outward injury but rather by something internal. It was after his sixth birthday that Taranis's eye became a cloudy gray, teary, and slightly inflamed. The vets diagnosed him with ERU, saying he had the typical signs. Then they explained that there was no set cure for the disease. but there were some things that could be done to make him comfortable. The disease was still being studied and no positive treatments had come to light. So, Taranis now has a special eye-patch to protect from excessive sunlight and a special anti-inflammatory medicine. It hasn't been a terribly severe case so far but no one knows what might happen in the future.

Optional Extra:
Taranis came to our stable a sweet tempered yearling with a cheery outlook on life. As he grew up he matured and became more calm but he never lost his cheery, sweet nature.
Despite his eye problem Taranis never acts depressed or sorry for himself. He is friendly with all the other Kleeare in his pasture and even has a few special friends among them.
He doesn't mind show jumping but doesn't particularly like any kind of competition. He isn't competitive, and can actually be a little too passive at times. While the Kleeare in his pasture don't take advantage of his passive nature, sometimes his fellow competitors will.
