Mornings and Daily Routines

Postby razzberry » Sat Apr 23, 2016 7:31 am

The sunlight gleamed through the windows and doors of the barn, illuminating the old yet sturdy structure in a golden light. I moved through the barn, weaving into and out of stalls as I greeted each resident in turn, offering head scratches and muzzle kisses to those who wanted them. The mornings were always a busy time for me, feeding and watering all the horses, turning them out so that their stalls could be cleaned and then bringing some back in again, not to mention the new load of hay that sat patiently near the side of barn waiting to be lifted up into the hay loft by the large conveyor belt that we had. Striding towards the wall where the multiple lead ropes hung on their respective hooks, my fingers daintily wrapped around the tough material of the teal rope that hung underneath the gold name plaque "Caradic". He was the very first resident here at Robin Grove and he was also the first horse that I had bought with my well-earned money, all by myself. Many of the others horses that lived here had been gifts, cost split fifty-fifty with my twin sister who owned her own horse ranch not far from my own, or were offspring from breedings between some of my sister's herd or some of mine.

The ground beneath my paddock boots quickly changed from hard cement to slightly softer ground as I moved from the barn through the large sliding door, out towards the paddocks with Caradic's lead wrapped in my hands. My strides carried my through the grassy aisles between the paddocks as I made my way towards the fairly large one that currently held the large silver bay stallion who hadn't failed to capture my heart upon our first encounter. "Hey there handsome" my gentle voice called out the the stallion, catching his attention, ears perked in my direction as he amble towards the paddock gate where I stood ready with his lead rope. Caradic was a very laid-back horse yet a very spontaneous and spunky one at the same time, he was very complex and I liked that about him. Stroking his nose and giving his firm neck a pat, I clipped the lead to the ring on the underside of his jaw before leading him out of the enclosure, the gate swinging closed soundly behind us. The sunlight danced on his bay coat, bringing out the rich bay color that he was bathed in while the silvery-grey color hinted in his mane seemed to shine like actual silver. He was considerably taller then me, the top of my head reaching just a little above his withers, but with his head held up high as it usually was it made him seem a few hands taller than he actually was. Caradic walked at my side, his lobbing in a gentle sway from side to side, his shoulder occasionally bumping me lightly as the pair of us trekked towards the barn.

With his stall previously cleaned and his buckets filled, brimming to the top with feed pellets and water, I unclipped the lead from his halter, letting him waltz eagerly into the pristine stall. He instantly stuffed his muzzle into the small pile of hay the la yin one corner of his stall, a satisfied grunt leaving his muzzle. "Be sure to chew Car, don't just inhale the lot" she chuckled, shaking her head as she closed his stall door, returning to the rest of her duties with the other horses.
