I am not the best at explaining things...but..
You "adopt" these by sending your payment(pets/C$, sometimes their free) to the person who created the pets(dogs/cats/birds ect.) and the person who created the design gives it to you. Once the design is yours you are free to do what you want with it.
This is a horrible explanation >.<
uhh.. If you want a better description of how it works. I would probably ask someone else XD
