Well depends on the character, but hands are generally big small or anything, I usually just draw the square or circle just slightly bigger then the wrist and hope for the best to come out of it. these days its almost automatic and I don't know how.
Your heads don't seem out of proportion. its the necks and body. The shoulders on the female seem to big, and the neck on the male is to big. well I might make his head a little bigger but that isn't really necessary. The body either needs to be thinned out, or the legs to be lengthened. the right hand of the male could be shrunk very slightly but the rest of the hands look nice. Your proportions are awkward but your anatomy is great.
Keep trying really hard, this isn't bad! Connecting two characters and keeping proportion is really hard. Just keep studying your references and try try again. I think your on the right path to figuring out what you want from your art. You'll always find something funny or off about it, that's just the way we artists are. Like I said your anatomy is good, just your proportion is a bit wonky which most people have issues with.
