The Ceffyl Dŵr

Postby jillybean711 » Sun Jan 17, 2016 8:34 am

Omg its finally finished. This took me so long to finish. I did the wings last minute, so yeah, I apologize if they look bad.

This is one of the few times I've attempted to draw a realistic horse, tbh. I think I did pretty good, with the help of some reference pictures. The time is probably off by an hour, I had to eat dinner, and I left it open.

I'm sure some of you are wondering what a Ceffyl Dŵr is, and I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't, they aren't exactly well-known. Anyways the Ceffyl Dŵr is a horse that lives in the mountains of Wales, living near mountain ponds, waterfalls, or pools. Their appearance and intentions differs from the area of Wales, but is known to be a very mischievous spirit that takes the form of a horse, sometimes one with wings. When seeing a weary traveler, it encourages him to hop onto his back, and if the traveler does, it often jumps off a cliff, evaporating into a mere cloud mist, sadly, sending the poor traveler falling to his death.
I did a Ceffyl Dŵr for a reason, actually. The vast majority of my ancestors are Celtic, making me mostly Celtic as well. Since I loved horses, and I also wanted to try something realistic, I decided to do a Ceffyl Dŵr, besides i'm kind of a sucker for lesser known things. X3

      Very cool !!
I very much thought it was going towards Kelpie territory, but I was surprised when it ended in the creature jumping off the cliff rather than drowning poor folk.
Always a fan of people exploring their heritage through legends. ^^ I'd love to see more Celtic creatures if you do more !!
